Level 1 vs TGR?

L1 - does something for skiing and has shaped the culture of freeskiing into what it is

TGR- Takes everything it can from skiing to make profits

Please tell me it was Nic Alegre

I'm kinda ignorant on this one, but why is TGR so bad for skiers/ the ski community? I know they make forums dedicated to skiing, and put out video parts with skiers and boarders like Sammy C, Jeremy Jones, Tim Durtschi, and Nick McNutt. Their youtube channel also seems to support other mountain bike and surf projects.

I get they they haven't had the same impact on skiing as Level 1 has, but that seems like a crazy high bar. Do they have some bad practices behind the scenes that I'm missing?

We all just hate Kai jones

I don’t get how Durtschi is always hanging with that kid. Is Todd paying him an hourly fee to babysit?

Nah actually he signed his rights away to durtschi

I wish I could understand this more- cus going out to Jackson my first time this year i was surprised to see TGR is bigger than I expect, having a shop in the airport and what not. BUT the skiers they do support in their videos I feel are rippers that should be supported the way they are. How is it all take and no give back for them?

I do think level 1 does more for the culture of freeskiing, but i feel it's easy to make TGR seem like the bad guy comparing them to Level 1...

Idk i just wish I understood more, I dont have a certain stance on this, but want to understand why one would have such a strong one sided stance.

Hot takes from Siggers

Throwback to when tgr invited athletes to go shoot with them, then asked them to pay at the end of the trip, but only after the skiers had already pulled up ??

aha yea I was maybe a little harsh. I just think Level 1 pushed freeskiing in a sweet direction with new styles and trends and TGR is more of a machine that cranks out movies year after year. feels like more of a business

I think Level 1 did something similar to Jonah Williams. Steve Stepp talked about this in the squidskiing podcast a while back

Just think of the L1 fan and TGR fan, I'd way rather ski and hang with a L1 fan, vibes would be fun all day not some boomer with a go pro trying to find a "stache" i think all the skiers TGR films are legit but all they're stuff seems a big generic and for profit. It is a business but I feel they started core and have now moved on to selling greatful deadXtgr hats and socks it sometimes feels money grabby, they are targeting the outdoorsy hipster yuppies IMO

Don’t know how this rumor got started, we’ve heard it before. But we’re pulling up with the receipts. This is a screenshot of the email thread planning the DC trip from Pleasure - only film trip Jonah ever came on.

As you can see, it was well communicated to everyone on this trip that lodging and travel expenses were gonna be split ahead of time. We love Jonah and we wanted to film with him bad to be clear. This was just standard operating procedure for us at this time, and really any ski film company - if we covered every rental car and AirBNB for every trip for every crew we would have went out of business a long time ago. Those expenses add up big real quick.

I think you're clueless about the TGR demographic.

And some people who are really damn good at skiing and know wtf they’re talking about. Sure it attracts some hipster outdoorsy folks but this site attracts...dolan.

I've been to multiple Lvl1 and TGR premiers. Pretty much same crowd at every show. The TGR ones felt like more of an event. The only fun time I have had at a Lvl1 show was probably because ON3P actually hosted it, and shit got rowdy after the 12 year olds left.

But honestly. Regular ass skiers who put themselves (in their heads) on some "team" when it comes to video production companies are no worse than the 60 year old skier who turns their nose down on anyone who slides on snow differently than them or has a different style.

I should post this thread up on TGR forums

The forums are just that. Forums. The TGR forums are just a carryover from the old Powder forums. When Powder dropped it's forums TGR just gave the homeless a home. Most people could give a shit about the multimedia company. I don't know many adults outside of the ski industry that put themselves in some camp when it comes to ski movies. It either has the kind of skiing you like, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, they probably aren't marketing to you in the first place.
