I like to stay up to date on the blog on the level 1 homepage- www.level1productions.com. Its updated frequently throughout the season, and reading about the L1 crew's experiences makes watching their film the following fall a lot more enjoyable. The newest entry is a long piece on a heli trip to alaska. The whole write up struck me as being really well written and sheds a lot of light on how challenging backountry in general and more specifically alaska can be. Take the time and check it out, it's well worth the read
 
i know alaska is really cool and all. but it never looks that cool in ski movies. it seems like it would be a lot funner to do. Its like all those shots are the same. i loved level 1's movie because it wasnt a really high budget movie. they just shreded around with sleds which is really cool
 
i would rather watch chest deep baker pow with pillow lines and cliffs and shit than an open face steepline in alaska

but that was a really well-written and thoughtful article by level 1. very legit and it cleared up basic misconceptions that everyone seems to have about AK...
 
I read this article and thought it was well written too. and i like the pictures. For the one who think that these guys should not go to AK you are silly. it would just be a stop in the progression of the skiers and the movies.
 
at the end of the article, berman talks about bumping into travis rice's crew filming with two helicopters, one for athlete transport, the other for a gyro-mounted hd camera. he said the brainfarm crew dropped about 250k for heli time, while L1 dropped around 5 grand. I dont know what part of that implies that L1 is high budget now, but they scraped together whatever money they could find and took the trip.
