Let's talk about skiing.

I want to have a general conversation with the people of Newschoolers about the wonderful sport of freestyle skiing.

I'll start things off.

What mountain do you guys ride at? How's the snow at said mountain?

I ride at Bear Mountain in California. And the snow is shit right now...

It's ironic. This year I don't really have a home mountain. I've applied to a couple of mountains for Terrain Park Crew job(s?). So hopefully I'll get the job somewhere.

This world needs more SKIER Park Staff...They're always borders where I ride so the jibs are pretty bias towards borders...So good luck to you man!

I ride at Welch Village in Minnesota. They refuse to build anything but box set-ups, and it's in Minnesota, so it's overall extremely mediocre. It's been snowing this year, though, so my city is decently primed for some urban riding.

The paper I write for is letting me do a ski area review column, so I'll be able to escape Welch and check out other areas in the region. Here's the first article:

peace, have fun out there

I ride at Mt. Washington, B.C. and the snow is excellent we have a 492cm base and based on Freeskier's Facebook post a week or so ago we're the second mountain in North America in terms of snow pack for 2012.

peek n peak NY.

Snow was nice, there was probably 8 or 10 inches of freshies earlier today. Had some fun in the woods. Snow's sooo good

I ride at Granite Peak in Wisconsin, snow is pretty nice but icy as always. I really wish that the hill faced the opposite was so it was into the sun because unfortunately the takeoffs of all the jumps shadow the landing and the light is flat all the time. Our big jump (45-60 ft) should be getting put up tonight!

I usually ride at Great Divide, Montana. The mountain doesn't get a ton of snow and the base is only at 30" but if you're careful where you ski there's plenty of untracked pow much of the time.

I went skiing today, got snow all in and around my face. Even saw the sun for a bit.

Good times.

Not sure how far I am from Attitash, probably 2 hours max, but may I ask why, do they have openings? Also wondering about age limit. Some places are 18+

I just saw that you had cranmore on your profile so I assumed you were near there. They're really trying this year with the park and could use help i'm sure. And nah, my buddy is like 16 and is part of the crew. Mostly skiers which is nice

would you wanna walk around in ski boots fixing features all day? there have been posts before saying skiers ride boards when they have park duties for that reason.

anyways, i fucking love skiing without poles. it's so much more fun imo and i think my styles gotten better

I ski at Taos, NM as well as most of northern NM and southern CO. The terrain here is unmatched . The parks here are decent but Angel fire has a pretty good park. Once the mountain gets fully open i rarely find myself in the park though.

The snow quantity is highly variable. We can get 400"-600" one year then the next get 150", however the snow quality is the best in the world. The driest snow in North America falls in Arizona and New Mexico.

I ride Camp Fortune in Quebec, the snow is decent right now because we've gotten 50cm+ in the last week. Our park is banger as fuck, got 9 hits including a dope 15 foot kicker perfect for whirly birds and helicopters.

Oh you ride at bear? Skiing in LA county is the titsAnd my home mountain is below. We usually have pretty good parks when our parks crew gets their shit together

you should see it right now... haha, they put it on a flat corner of the bunny hill and, no joke pushed up a giant mound of snow that you have to climb up just to hit the features.

Bear is the shit for sure, but there are 100 swagfag technined out snowbaorders for every skier and they're all shit heads...But other than that it's not bad

And it's actually outside of LA County in San Bernardino County...

I am soo stoked, I'm going to whistler for 4 months after not being able to ski for literally 2 years for various reasons. cant wait !

to their credit, there's a very fun, pretty long tube rail right at the beginning, but otherwise it's all boxes or really narrow boxes. The lips are also way to high.

elsewhere is pretty fun, though.. I just wish they'd put some effort into their park
