LET'S SKI THE EAST COAST BACKCOUNTRY TOGETHER, MINE BRETHREN (AND SISTREN)

I'm doing it this year. I've decided. I have my car at school, I have an apartment with enough space to fit my ski gear, I'm FUCKING DOING IT!

I know there is powder and general backcountry yumminess to be found on our otherwise frozen, barren coast. And I want to find it this year. And I don't feel like making a TGR account.

SO BRETHREN! WHO SHALT GO FORTH AND SHRED THE GNAR WITH ME?! WHO SHALL BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO VENTURE FORTH INTO THE UNCHARTED, IN SEARCH OF POW POW?!?!

Seriously, I'd love to get a group together to communicate with about powder days and impromptu trips. I won't be able to get all the way up north super often, as I'm going to school in Rhode Island and am usually super swamped with work, but I'm down to make a serious, concerted effort to get at least 20 days in this year including a trip out west with the fam. And I'm not skiing park. I'm thinking the spots that exist in local lore—and Meathead films.

Who the fuck is with me?

Has anyone read the AMC guide on the northeast's best backcountry skiing? And We should organize an NS tuckermans trip this spring. I go up every year, its always a great time

i want to try to get into more pow/ backcountry/ move up from the sketchy woods with a inch of ice in massachusetts this year, i would be down for a tucks day

i'm in RI for the season, I'm down. I've skiied most of the east coast, I lived in VT, I know Maine well, and I have backcountry experience from livin in CO. If you drive, I'm up for it.

I'll see about getting a roof rack for my car. If I can do that (I should be able to) I can do the driving.

i wouldnt mind getting into some backcountry!...but i dont know the 1st thing about it or where to go so....set some shit up and ill try an come

Im down i live in CT so it would be easy to get a carpool going. My rents also have a house in NH that if i asked we could probably crash at.

You gotta know what your doing going into the back country. Especially if your doing Tucks, even though it's the east there is def still slides and stuff

Yoooo I live in Rhode Island too! Just moved up here and I have a seasons pass to Mt Snow and Stratton! I'm definitely down for some bc, I know of a few sick spots at Stowe and shit way up north

So 3 Rhode Islanders In here! Sick, my roommate boards too so we could definitely get a really solid group going this winter

I'm not certified but I've done plenty of BC before with people who are. I know my BC protocol and I'd review it before going on one of these trips, definitely.

thats awesome! i definitely want to learn more about it! I have a good friend that does alot of BC in NH and i was asking him about it and he was telling me how its definitely more than just hiking up and skiing!

You should get your friend involved in this too! We're definitely going to need at least one or two people who have experience doing this.

I know there are good spots around Stowe and around Jay Peak. We need someone with knowledge of those spots, though. I doubt we'd end up getting anything out of it if we all just sort of wandered up there aimlessly.

One of the most important things we all need - trust. I'm not skiing in dangerous territories with complete strangers and/or people I don't trust, I think it's probably a good idea to ski with one another at least once or twice beforehand. Jus sayin.

There's dope spots all over the place it jus depends on everyone bein able to sync up n get it done =)

well if we're gonna do that, most of us are in RI so we should met up at Mt Snow or Stratton first, somewhere in Southern VT so it's not a crazy drive

what about we find a good time to meet, probably afternoons since most people work or go to school? and I'll see if I can get a group package to yawgoo so we dont have to buy a full price ticket....

i KNOW its Yawgoo, but they say if u can ski there, u can ski anywhere. personally I'd feel comfortable making a judgement call seein someone ski on any terrain. at least we could get to know eachother as people too that always helps when ur not complete strangers haha

I agree. There's far too many people that want to do Tuckerman's without realizing what they're actually getting into. It not the most difficult hike in the world, but its definitely a challenge, espeially with ski gear. And even though slides dont happen too often in the spring, their are other other danger such as undermined snow which people need to know about. That being said, its an incredible place, and well worth the trip

Bumpity bumps, I'm down for the Yawgoo idea although I'm not sure if it will really give any of us a sense of how well everyone else skis.

NS tucks trip for sure!

Also, I have a place at loaf that can sleep an ample amount of people. Right on the trailhead for Burnt Mountain aka Brackett Basin. I'm living up there all winter so if people want to come explore you're more that welcome to crash

I am currently working on a project regarding EC backcountry skiing- I have been hiking for months and mapping out sick cliffs and lines around Vermont. I am a former West Coast filmmaker and want to use my talents to produce something never done before on the East Coast. I have a small group of talented skiers but could always use more talent. Here is a rough teaser of my work.

I also have my Avy 1 certification along with basic first aid. I have a beacon, probe, shovel etc and would be more than willing to teach anyone basic snow stability guidelines.

I'm down if any one in here is around maine sugarloaf a has tons of back country to be exsplored and they just exspanded the backside snowfields

I am a little young and not too experienced so I wouldn't be able to do any trips other than tucks. It would be sick to keep this going for a few years so I can join in when I am older

I would be game as well to do some trips. Just got a touring setup this year. Atomic Blogs with Dynafit Radicals. Also signed up for an Avy 1 class in January. Hit me up for any trips I'm down.

Its always nice to be with others who have avy training. Its one thing understanding what to do if someone gets buried but what happens if the only person with avy training gets buried...

Also- anyone from VT(Burlington area)?

Honestly I've been coaching since I was pretty much a mini shred (16) I mean I'm not about to get sued but I would love to bring up the next generation, if paeents are OK I'd be happy to show kids how to safely shred beyond the corporate resort...and remember, #helmetsarecool ! =]

I created an east coast backcountry cult. It's an open, non auto-accepting forum, so you can see what's going on but you'll have to request an invite. I just invited a few of you. If you didn't receive an invite and you're serious about doing this, request one and I'll accept you.

We'll use that cult to get this show on the road. We first need some concrete information on some spots to explore, including access information (how to get there, will touring be necessary, etc.), and then we'll need to coordinate lodging and transportation. We will also need to get a preliminary ski day together to get to know each other a bit better and see how everyone skis. This is not child's play, and I'm sure none of us feel very comfortable heading into the mountains with complete strangers.

I'm excited about this aaaah

Currently studying abroad, but come January, I am very down to join. I own a full beacon/shovel/probe set-up, and have my AIARE level 1 cert. I've done tucks in the winter, but I'd really love to get into Baxter st park in Maine and shred some stuff. Hit me up.

Hell yeah I'd be very down. Anyone know if there are any Avi 1 classes on the EC?
