Legalization of Marijuana In Canada??

Apparently a huge case went thru today in Ottawa which makes it possible that marijuana may be legalized within the next 6 months to a year. Not sure of the details, missed most of the news cast. But Ottawa has 60 days to appeal the ruling.

that would be interesting to see if it goes through. i think that the US should do the same as well....call my bluff, but i am not a huge stoner, i just believe that it would allow the government to concentrate on more important matters, and would save tons of money on the 'war against drugs.' just my opinion

I think it would make things so much better. But as long as there's huge money in it and people can be paid off it won't happen. Logically for anyone making money off drugs legalization would be the worst thing to ever happen.

The new campaigns in regards to drug money supporting terrorism are pretty good too. (2 men sitting in a bar talking) But in reality it doesn't impact anyone longer then 5 minutes after watching the commercial. Legalization would just make more sense, and as someone posted before in sweden or where ever it was there was less smokers.

Yes, i suppose that is correct...they would have to come up with policies for selling the goods, as well as who could sell it, importing, distributing. oh well...it would be good to see it happen in canada...especially for Whistler!

Fuck legalization. It's cool in Amsterdam because 1. they are a minority and 2. how many Multi nationals are based out of Amsterdamn? I take my ganja how I take my food, natural. IF I don't eat processed cheese do you think I want to smoke processed weed? Fuck no. There is money to be made and our agricultural practices srtongly reflect that. I would rather get bud from those dope mexicans who been geurilla gardening for generations. Shit will be added to your dope if it's legalized in north america.

What about the social costs? So what weed is healthy physically? Thats kind of irrelivant. I know alot of kids who smoke to be bad, because its illegal. These kids will start doing more heavy drugs, obviously not all but there will deffinitly be a number. Weed is a strange thing, it isn't for everybody. I know some people who excel and others who fail because of it. I'm not making a very strong argument here but I think the social implications need to be researched.

I just don't want my shit fucked with and I really don't think legalization will make things that much better. I'll smoke regardless and I trust my buddy Craigo with my buds more than uncle sam and his bitches.

Peace

yeah but it's decriminilization which is not legalisation.. it would still be illegal to grow and sell it.. the only good thing is that if you get caught with a bunch of it you don't get a criminal record.. just a fine.. it looks like it's going to happen within the first 4 months of this year.. the only way it won't happen is if the US government threatens us with shit and stuff like that yeah

Smoking pot leads to uhh... I forget.

'What time is it?.. Saturday?

Stuff is added to your weed either way. Granted if it's legalized it probably wouldn't have the same potency at all. I personally don't care either way about the situation...Just thought it was interesting.

And about it being healthy...sure there's health benefits to those who are sick. But recent studies show that it's actually detrimental to your health and causes cancer (just like everything else) 1 joint = smoking 20 cigarettes...

It's really not all that simple of an arguement if you think about it.

Sure you want your weed to be good...who doesn't. But look at the reality of the situation, your guerilla's growing your crops are the same ones who are kidnapping and killing innocent people every year to continue to support their habits, just as our drug purchases do as well. It's not a simple case...I guess you could always grow it in your basement...

Thats pretty much the case around here, people growing for cash.. we do have our share imported bud.. I never really thought of it like that who knows what the money goes too

yo get your facts straight the ruling was about medical marijuana and that it was unconstitutional and that ottawa has to change the laws so that those who need it for medical usage can get legal acess to it.

easy there tiger...I did say I barely caught the newcast now didn't I?

And apparently the ruling came after they let a 16 year old off for possession....

ya but you know, I heard someware else that it was 15 joints=1 sigaret. I have never smoked anything in my life, but I think they should legilize it. because it would 'creat peace' with the gov and the drug people, and personally, marajowanna that is is no big deal to me at all. at my drivers ed class they had the goggles that simulate what it is like to be drunk and what it is like to be stoned and duess which were worse??? the drunken ones NOT THE STONED ONES

now lets think about this for a sec, which is leigle again???

yeah I heard about the 16 year old kid from windsor or london can't remember which. they said he got off because somewhere in the laws it didn't actually state that what he was doing was illegal. It was mainly a decision by a judge. you're not going to be able to get off on 30 grams by pleading the same case.

haha they have glasses immitating what it looks like to be stoned? geeze i hate it when my vision changes after i smoke (?)

'Well... You.. Look pretty easy and you might put out, so roll in the cream cheese, roll in the cream cheese!'

If weed was legalized I think the major tobacco companies would start selling it. This would probably put the drug trade out of business. For the next 10 or so years the usage of marijuana would probably go way up. After that it would go down because it would be legal and therefore less cool. Same thing with drinking. We had an exchange student at our school and he said that he was allowed to drink in his country but he never just went out and got wasted like kids do here. So in the long run legalizing weed and lowering the drinking age would have benefits.

My girlfriend told me to shove my skis up my ass

Yah it was some random 16 year old in Windsor. Apparently the new ruling is you can't have any more then an ounce on you at what time or you can be charged.

So I guess you can just travel with 27.5 grams and be fine?

Hey stephanie, geurilla gardening is just slang for growing dope. Secondly I'm pretty sure that no terrorist organization raises gun funds by selling weed, its cocaine moron and its backed by the CIA so don't tell me I'm killing people because its your government your country and your ignorance which maintains the cycle. Take your head out the d.a.r.e. campaign foo'

Marijuana

Usually smoked as a cigarette or joint, or in a pipe or bong, marijuana has appeared in 'blunts' in recent years. These are cigars that have been emptied of tobacco and re-filled with marijuana, sometimes in combination with another drug, such as crack. Some users also mix marijuana into foods or use it to brew tea.

The main active chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). Short-term effects of marijuana use include problems with memory and learning; distorted perception; difficulty in thinking and problem-solving; loss of coordination; and increased heart rate, anxiety, and panic attacks.

Health Hazards

Effects of Marijuana on the Brain. Researchers have found that THC changes the way in which sensory information gets into and is acted on by the hippocampus. This is a component of the brain's limbic system that is crucial for learning, memory, and the integration of sensory experiences with emotions and motivations. Investigations have shown that THC suppresses neurons in the information-processing system of the hippocampus. In addition, researchers have discovered that learned behaviors, which depend on the hippocampus, also deteriorate.

Effects on the Lungs. Someone who smokes marijuana regularly may have many of the same respiratory problems that tobacco smokers have. These individuals may have daily cough and phlegm, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, and more frequent chest colds. Continuing to smoke marijuana can lead to abnormal functioning of lung tissue injured or destroyed by marijuana smoke.

Regardless of the THC content, the amount of tar inhaled by marijuana smokers and the level of carbon monoxide absorbed are three to five times greater than among tobacco smokers. This may be due to marijuana users inhaling more deeply and holding the smoke in the lungs.

Effects of Marijuana Use during Pregnancy. Research has shown that babies born to women who used marijuana during their pregnancies display altered responses to visual stimuli, increased tremulousness, and a high-pitched cry, which may indicate problems with neurological development. During infancy and preschool years, marijuana-exposed children have been observed to have more behavioral problems and to perform tasks of visual perception, language comprehension, sustained attention, and memory more poorly than nonexposed children do. In school, these children are more likely to exhibit deficits in decision-making skills, memory, and the ability to remain attentive.

Effects of Heavy Marijuana Use on Learning and Social Behavior. A study of college students has shown that critical skills related to attention, memory, and learning are impaired among people who use marijuana heavily, even after discontinuing its use for at least 24 hours. Researchers compared 65 'heavy users,' who had smoked marijuana a median of 29 of the past 30 days, and 64 'light users,' who had smoked a median of 1 of the past 30 days. After a closely monitored 19- to 24-hour period of abstinence from marijuana and other illicit drugs and alcohol, the undergraduates were given several standard tests measuring aspects of attention, memory, and learning. Compared to the light users, heavy marijuana users made more errors and had more difficulty sustaining attention, shifting attention to meet the demands of changes in the environment, and in registering, processing, and using information. The findings suggest that the greater impairment among heavy users is likely due to an alteration of brain activity produced by marijuana.

Longitudinal research on marijuana use among young people below college age indicates those who used have lower achievement than the non-users, more acceptance of deviant behavior, more delinquent behavior and aggression, greater rebelliousness, poorer relationships with parents, and more associations with delinquent and drug-using friends.

did it ever occur to you that people that are 'more acceping of deviant behavior, more delinquent behavior and aggression, greater rebelliousness, have poor relationships with parents, and more associations with delinquent and drug-using friends' automatically turn to smoking pot for those reasons? and that smoking pot doesn't actually turn them into a 'deviant', they just do it because you think it's a source of deviant behaviour and thus deemed bad?

I don't see smoking pot as deviant at all. I agree totally with the above statement. Certain kids do it because of the 'badass' image, while most other just do it cause they like it. My mom smokes pot, the principle of the highschool back home grows it in his basement. It's really not all that huge of a deal.

Maybe I'm desensitized but I don't see it as a huge issue.

(had some good b.c. bud the other night too....it had been a while...)
