Leftovers To Meals

So I was just thinking today at work (dishwasher at a retirement home) how much good food is thrown away, today i threw out 2 full pies, a full platter of country fried steak and 3 buckets of mashed potatoes.
It made me start thinking about this idea, now me myself I am not much of an activist, usually just too busy/lazy. But possibly something i would consider doing as a senior project.
So instead of throwing out all of the perfectly good "leftovers" why not make a place where businesses or families that have leftovers from their dinner could bring the food too at a certain time each night and from there people could serve the homeless/poor people food.
Of course the people would have to write the date it was cooked on in order to maintain safety standards and such.
Good idea? Yes? No?

Sparknotes: Donating Leftovers to a homeless shelter to serve as dinner that night as a senior project? possibly?

at least here in finland we have some stupid laws that forbids that. its considered trash after it has been served and carried back to the kitchen

oh damn then i wouldnt be suprised if that was a law here.
well shieett. well at least i gave it thought lol

unless you're operating out your backdoor, you won't be able to get the left overs out to the homeless.

a better, more feasible solution would be to at least compost your left-over food instead of throwing it away. Then use the compost in community gardens and grow something yummy!

you need to maintain way higher standards than that for it to be legal.

people could cough or who knows on that food while they are eating it.

i dont even eat leftovers at the pizza joint i work at.

yeah, there was a group of people (maybe their still doing it) in the city that tried to get this to happen but due to sanitary reasons the state wouldnt allow it

its a great idea but probably nit legal due to sanitaion.

the garden one is the most vesiable, then give that food to the homeless

It's a good idea. But here I think there are laws against it with Health and Safety. You would be setting yourself up for all kinds of lawsuits, if theirs bad food, infected food or something goes wrong. It's a great idea but probably not worth the risk.
