Left behind in college

so this weekend is graduation at my college i just finished my fifth year and all my friends are graduating this weekend. it is cool to see people i have grown really close to be done and he so happy but it is also really sad to me to know that i screwed around so much that i probably have another year of school. i have had a ton of fun in school but in retrospect i wish i had made a greater effort to go to class and try to pass more classes

so your like a super senior x2? wow dude. do your parents pay for school or do you? because if i didnt graduated in 4 years my parents would not have paid for school.

^ same here. You can party and pass classes. Do both, its not really that hard. You just gotta be smart about it.

It's OK. I'm having a tough time at college too. I just finished up my 5th semester of college and I have 37 credits so far (I started in August of 2006). I have failed 5 classes. I need 60 credits so I have about 8 more classes left so I can receive my Associate's Degree. College really should be taken at your own pace and I didn't do that - I rushed it. Right now I'm extremely tired of my college so I'm going to take a break and start up again maybe in January but at a different college.

Don't feel bad though. It took my friend 6 years to get his Associate's Degree.

A friend of mine from high school ended up staying home and the rest of our friends went off to school. It's pretty easy to see that being isolated like that took a toll on him but now he's much more motivated to get into school and be successful. So in a way it was good for him, maybe a little slap in the face could be good for you too...?

i got 23 credits freshman year, then i took a year off. now i transferred and only 19 credits were accepted but who cares. college is fun so if i have to stay in 6 years i wont mind

i am ok with being in college another year the only shitty part to me is that in december i turn 24 and get cut off my parents insurence so that is going to be a big expense for me.

thats fuckin dirt cheap. i pay the least out of my friends and its around 6 gs without mealplan/living. after 4 semesters i think i have 67 credits.

That must be community college then. How the fuck do you fail community college? And an AA won't give you shit, so why get that? It seems like it would be impossible for you to pass classes at a real college if you can't deal with cc classes. And for reference, I have taken cc classes. You don't have to go, you can show up drunk and still pass the classes. I didn't even know it was possible to fail unless you miss every test and tell the teacher to get fucked.

Your college just got out? That blows ass. I've been out for almost 2 months.

I've got 90 credits after 3 years. Right on track to graduate in 4 years.

word to that. this girl must be inbred or something. C.C. classes are aces everytime. If a class is too tough to get a high grade in at CU, I'll take it at a local C.C.

for $750 a semester you're not going to get an education. sorry sweetheart but you need to transfer out of there and goto a bigger school. you're going to become some sucker that goes to CMC and gets a degree in ski resort management, which is worth....shit. Those management jobs are given to people that goto real colleges and decide to take the pay cut for the nice lifestyle.

Look into transferring before you get your degree, every college has a continueing education program which is essentially a backdoor into any university. If you're over 20 you can just start taking classes (no tests what so ever) and earning credit toward a degree at a respectable university. I did the continueing education program for two years, applied to the business school, and was accepted. I went from a high school drop out with a GED in 2006 to a future CPA by 2008. That shit is wild! i remember living in breckenridge talking to fucking idiots and being so sad of my life. now i'm living and loving in boulder and everything seems very rewarding for such a small amount of work. Additionally, its always better tot ake lower class loads and receive higher grades. They look at your grades, not your credit load.

As for the thread creator, I'm on the same plan as you pal. What you need to realize is that your friends are getting jobs now and have become adults. You have one last year to get it out before those days are in the past. Appreciate that aspect and don't get down on yourself. Appreciate every break school gives you and make the best of it. Life is too short to work all the time. Having fun is all that matters, so long as you get your shit done eventually.

I'm kind of in the same boat, my trust fund paid for 4 years of college, but I have about a year left (possibly year and a half)

I totally partied my ass off in college, I met friends that will last a lifetime, alot of them will be graduating next year, but now my funds are cut off so I think I'll have to take out student loans which really sucks. Most likely going to a community college in the fall, then finishing at my 4 year college in the spring in hopes of graduation. Don't stress it too much though man, just buckle down from here on and go to all of your classes, party on the weekends, get a girlfriend or something and lay low. Don't give up and get that degree, the real world is a bitch from what I hear, enjoy your time in school and who cares if you didn't rush it

You don't understand. I have to go to a community college. You have also never been to my college. Let's just say the "professor's" are major assholes, and the administration doesn't know shit. I would absolutely love to go to CU, but I can't afford it. Once I get this BS college out of my hair it will be a smooth ride. After I get my AA I can go to any college I want. I'm not going to stop at the AA part.

If you started planning for college early you can afford it, if you had gotten your first job when you were 14 and worked 2 jobs every summer till you were 16/17 then start working 3 jobs a summer you would be set.

But to the people saying an associates doesn't give you shit that isn't necessarily true, you may not start up as high in management as you would with a bachelor but you can still work your way up.

Thanks to my high school guidance counselors I didn't get any scholarhsips. I didn't get my drivers license till I was 18. Neither of my parents went to college so they didn't have a clue.

Im sorry but thats aweful, no offense.

unless he would go a semester then take another one off to make money to pay for college. thats reasonable.

For you though, dont take that long to get your associates, think about it 4 years can get you your bachelors degree and associates is only supposed to take 2 years.

Well shit happens. First semester of college was great. I had a good GPA then I found out my mom had cancer on Thanksgiving Day. Second semester - I failed a couple classes. Third semester - was ok. Fourth semester - went to shit. Fifth semester - went to total shit. I left my family to go to CO to live while I was still taking classes in my fifth semester. My mom started taking chemo as soon as I left so as soon as I heard that I knew I had to come back home. My life is in a hole right now. I need to get out of this hole, so if that means taking a break from everything and taking it easy for a bit then so be it. So I'm going to go back to CO to live, get my shit together, finally be with my friend and my boyfriend Thank God for him though, really, he keeps me in check.
