thinkin of packing up work in london and hitting bc in the next couple of days. Coz it's still early doors do you guys reckon i'll be able to find accom or work in whistler just by rocking up or is it usually crowded? I've never been out there but know some places in the alps are a bitch to find a plce to stay. Cheers
 
holy fuck are you clueless? Unless you know somebody or have a place to stay for at least a month dont bother. People are leaving right now because they didnt get hired by the mtn, so they didnt get staff accom, and they cant find a place to live. you about 3 months too late to just "rock on up"

if you can find a job, they are probably gonna ask you if you have a place to live first. and if you dont, you probably wont get hired...kinda the same for finding a house, if you dont have a job, you wont get the house...good luck though. hope you got lots of money.
 
why follow the trend? do something different there are lots of places that can be just as fun as whistler, just because everyone wants to live some dream life in whistler which only ever happens to the select few doesnt mean you should, there are tons of other mountains which can be so much fun because they are small, they get to have a great community when you get to know everyone around instead of just being another random person in whistler
 
moving to Whistler to become a skier is like moving to Hollywood tobecome an actor. Gotta work your way up. Theres allot of other sweet skiing towns in BC and Alberta. You might wanna check them out cuz although Whistler is awsome cost of living aint cheap. Look into Jasper,Banff, Nelson, and many other ski town locations. Cuz living in Whistler would be wicked, but you gotta plan it out a little more than a few weeks in advance.
 
Yeah man, check out some of the resorts in the rockies, you'll still get sicknastyterrain, rad parties, but no lines and you'll be able to justify living there without having to find out how to survive off of as little money as possible when everything costs as much money as possible.
 
You'd be better off spending the next 7 or 8 months saving up and planning and then move out for a year next august or so.
 
3rd of november is not "early" rocking up in august/september is early... now would just be dumb. maybe early if ur planning on doing a season in new zealand... now theres an idea...
 
woah woah whats with the negativity. move on up to whistler, there's people movin around every freakin day. check the pique there opportunities for living in many a place. there's always room opening up and people moving around. youd probably be lookin at around 600+/m though. many a job are also always hiring. dont worry about it too much unless you're not a personable .. person.. eheh. just try it out and if it doesn't work, go home. its worth a go. i say do it.

You'll need a work visa to get most of jobs here and visa's take a while to get. Unless you can find something under the table. Lots of people do that but I would imagine they're harder to find.
 
You can't just move from England to Whistler and start work. You have to apply for a working Visa. There are certain requirements before you can get one, including cash in the bank. Like I said, save up for a while and move out here at the end of next summer. Everything will go a lot smoother if you do it right.

I just realized he could have meant London Ontario. It would be a lot easier, but you should still make sure you have some savings.

What do you have to lose? Some pride, a girlfriend you probably don't reaaaaalllllyyyy like all that much, and what probably amounts to a shitty job.

I say do it. But be ready for massive failure.

Or just move to vancouver, get a car with what you'll save in living expenses(AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH YA RIGHT@!!!!!DERW@#@#!@!~@) and then go skiing in a ton of different places.
 
Depending on the visa requirements (not sure how it works for you Poms) there is still time to get a job and accom, but its harder and you got to be prepared to take the cleaning sort of jobs.
 
man, don't listen to these haters, they just want to protect their pow. i suggest you go to function junction and find a nice cardbox box to live in. the stray dogs there will cuddle with you and give you warmth. for a job, i suggest you go find some drug dealer on the block, suggest picking up a large quantity of illegal narotics, then hit him over the head with your ski boot and flee with the loot. if not, altitude week is in january i think and i'm sure some homos will pay top dollar for your pommie accent. they might even find the stray dogs kinda kinky and let you all crash in their hotel.
