Learning Newschool

Hi Guys.

I'm completely new to skiing and hope to have a few lessons to get the hang of it then heading off to Austria in March to have a go at the real thing.

I've experience ice-skating and roller-blading so at least I can hopefully pizza my way down :D

Just a few questions about Newschool skiing as it's tough to get my head around all the different parts of skiing at once.

What're the best type of ski's for a beginner? I intend to go for twin-tips but width length and carve are a bit of a mystery. I'm 6' tall and quite weighty :D

Also what's X-scape like compared to the Sheffield Ski-village for learning?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

ok well your best bet is going to a shop and not listening to me because i dont work in a shop and dont know each ski inside out, but id recomend something like last years fujatives??there soft and forgiving enough for a new skier and are good twins.

also i think xscape would probably be exactly the same as learning in sheffield, but a lot more expensive!!!!hope it helped!

I recommend atleast having a few lessons before you go away, then you get to see the whole of the mountain when you're out there, instead of being on 1 slope for the first day or so... as for the difference between Cas and Shef, u may as well go to Cas, because its alot more like the real thing... Like the other guy said, go ask at a shop, and buy last seasons kit if you can otherwise you may buy something you only use once. I buy nearly everything off ebay, and I just buy whats cheap and it works fine.

Ski length - go for between mouth and eye height if you can, until you develop your own taste

Ski width - try get a waist width of about 70/75mm for a first ski

Twin tips are good, but go and demo a few pairs at xscape or somewhere like that if you can, they normally take the price of the demo off the price of the skis if you buy from them.
