Lazy & Disrespectful (Ski) Patrol

Some friends and I were up at Crystal for opening day and it looked like it was going to be a good one. It all started when my friend lost his ski and brand new contour and had already spent an hour looking for them. Me and a couple others went down to help him look for it. To reach him we had to follow a cat track then duck one rope (into an open area) to reach him. My friend and I managed avoid him but my two other friends weren't so lucky. One lazy douche bag, embarrassment to ski patrol everywhere, fatass saw them. He shouted at them to stop then skied down to them, cause he wouldn't have been able to catch up, and proceeded to confiscate their passes. It was the second run of the day and he wouldnt take their excuse for trying to retrieve equiptment all while he watched my friends hunt for his the missing ski and call for backup to chase down people trying to help. He then showed us a pocket full of season passes that he had already confiscated and laughed about how upset the skiers must have been. I dont think this sort of behavior is acceptable for ski patrol especially at such a high-end respected resort. I am very dissapointed that my home mountain would allow such people to patrol their slopes. This needs to change, please share your thoughts.

talk to management about what happened and you were trying to search for missing gear. tell them the name of the guy if you know and how disrespectful he seemed to be. from your end of the story, he really seemed to be out there to take skiing away from people, not to keep them safe.

In your defense....

If what you described it legitimate, then that really sucks. Nothing wrong with trying to help a bro, and there's no reason for patrol to pour salt in the wound after yanking your pass.

Now, in patrol's defense...

They have to deal with shitheads all year who come out for 3-5 days on vacation and think it's cool to duck a rope out of bounds in search of pow so they can brag to all their friends when they have no idea of the potential consequences of their actions. I worked at a mtn so I'm friends with a lot of patrollers and thus a little biased, but out west if there are ropes up there's usually a good reason. They're trained to get after anyone ducking because if someone ducks and gets hurt/hurts someone else, they're the ones that will have to go rescue them in a sketchy area while putting their own safety at risk. If you lose gear and have to duck to retrieve it, usually if you just give them a heads up they'll either accompany you or just go get it for you, but at least they know what you're up to.

All that said, just go talk to the management. The mountain won't want bad press on NSers, TGR, etc and will probably try to make amends if you explain what happened in a level-headed manner. (Hope this post didn't sound like preaching, that wasn't my intention)

thank your for your input i understand that most patrollers are trying their best to follow regulations but this guy was not cool about it and ruined a perfectly good day. but youre also right that i should probably talk to management before spreading anti-crystal propoganda and that ducking a rope in some cases can be serious.

If you get your pass pulled, does that mean you have to pay for a new season pass, or can you retrieve it or something without any monetary losses?

We dont have anything like that around here so just wondering

not trying to be a prick but you also gotta see it from ski patrol's situation. But taking the pass is a bit too much, let em off with a warning or somerthin
