So about 5 months ago I was in a minor fender bender. No police were called, information exchanged, everyone drove away in their own cars. I was clearly at fault, I own this 100%

However, yesterday I got a court summons, that's shows this lady is using me for $288,000. Around 10000 for medical (bruised knee, back pain, and tennis elbow, whichbo highly doubt was caused by a 5 mph collision). 30,000 for lost wages (don't even know how that works, what did she miss like 2 months of work), and 248,000 for pain and suffering.

I know the odds of her getting that much are about zero, but seriously? Who sues a 23 year old for over a quarter million dollars over what accounted to a dinged bumper.

Anyway sorry for the rant. Post your lawsuit stories to make me feel better!

I think if you're going to hit someone with your car it's better to make sure you kill them outright. Less hassle.

But seriously, fuck that lady.

I don't see her being able to get anything in court. But if she does get something you might be in trouble because you don't have insurance to pay out that settlement.

Yeah same rules apply to people as apply to moose, if you can't avoid them, accelerate.

I got sideswiped and was 100% not at fault, and the woman still attempted to sue the bussiness I work for for damages.

Fuck those people

My friends mom sued Pizza Hut because she tripped in their parking lot, broke her ankle and she won $250,000. I know breaking your ankle is horrible but it's not heir fault and she didn't even work so she's not missing any of that

Luckily, at the time of the accident, I was paying my was on my parents insurance, so my insurance will cover up to like 250k but still, this is hassle I really don't need in my life

Technically speaking, the parking lot is still considered Pizza Hut's property so if it wasn't kept up to par, i.e. pot holes, cracks, ice, etc and she did hurt herself enough because of it, it is their fault. Stupid, I know but it's how they operate.

To OP and everyone else, even for such a small fender bender like this, call the cops. Get a police report because that's your first line of defense in bullshit cases like these. If she was legit hurt, it would've been in the report and this suit wouldn't be an issue right now.

I got into an accident years ago because of ice. The highway was just covered in a sheet of it and cars were all over the place. I did a few 360s and finally hit the guardrail that put me to a stop. A girl very far behind me got scared from seeing me sliding, slammed on her brakes and went skidding all over the place, resulting in her slamming into the back of my Jeep. Long story short, her insurance company tried suing me saying that it was my fault she got into an accident and tried suing me for the damages to her car which were in excess of what her car was even worth (POS dodge neon). My saving grace was the police report.

Anyways OP, get a lawyer if you can and fight it. For her to claim loss of wages and whatnot, she needs to have a ton of paperwork from the doctors and her employer. This sounds fishy. Good luck!

Did you know in America you can sue someone for suing you?

Like we are that sue-crazy that you can do that here lmfaooo.

No surprise though, every third ad on TV is a compensation lawyer saying someone needs to pay for what happened to you.
