Lange RX 130 LV or RS 130???

Both are 97mm last and have a lot of other things that are the same. (Low key just hate the look of the 2018 RX 130, but i can suck it up..) I'm just curious if the RS boot is gonna be a stiffer 130 than the RX. Lemme get some opinions and/or facts.

*Side note* I have the catalog right in front of me

There are some plastic differences in the cuff (IIRC) but both cuffs are from the polyurethane family... it's a very subtle difference that very few people could feel the difference between.

But, to me, the biggest and most important difference is that the RX has replaceable grip pads and the RS doesn't- it has a solid racing sole. You will chew through the sole of the RS super quickly so you'll want to get 3mm or 5mm lifters added to the soles just to have some replaceability and longevity. That alone will cost you an extra $50-100 depending on your location.

The RS is a race boot, thicker plastic and more difficult to work on. The RS also contains a harder boot board, for some they like the precision while carving. The RX has a rubber boot board which is more comfortable for all day skiing but you lose a little bit of hard snow feel. The RS liner is thiner but has laces, might get a bit colder in deep snow. The RX liner is a bit warmer and will hold up over time a little while longer than the RS liner.

The LV (low volume) will have a different fit than the regular. Have you tried them on/been fitted for both?

Semi-confusing thing about Lange's range is that the "regular" RS is a 97mm last and the RS "wide" is 100mm. So, regular RS is the same exact last as the RX LV. As mentioned above, the liners are different but honestly I don't think that would change the fit enough for someone to not like the one vs. the other.

Plastics are subtly different. The cuff on both is PE IRRC.

The RS engages ever so slightly quicker than the RX. RX has a longer engagement range and is designed more around off piste skiing. This will lend many people to perceive the RS as a stiffer boot.

Liner on the RS has more volume and denser padding. Easily one of the best stock liners I have ever skied. I was impressed with the RX liner as welll, has volume where you want it, super thin through the sides of the forefoot for great shell contact. RS liner does have a single laminated cover which will increase durability compared to the RX. This would only be an issue for the 60-100 day a year skier.

Both boots use the dual core mono injection construction which does deliver an increadably smooth and progressive flex. Overall the RS 130 is the best ski boot I have ever skied when combining comfort and performance. For a mortal like myself the performance between it and a Head RD raptor (plug boot) is negligible.

Dude, awesome reply. Thanks!

Already knew that, man. Actually work at a shop but wanted some other peoples opinions instead of my coworkers.

That's cool. Glad you've got something of an idea of what you're doing. Most on here don't. Onenerdykid is the one to listen and talk to on anything boots.
