you got your timing right. i don't know about Ontario however you seem to be a traveler so in the lower area of the lower peninsula of Michigan there is St Joseph, South Haven, Grand Haven, and Ludington. In the upper area of the lower peninsula Frankfurt, Charlevoix, and Petoskey/Harbor Springs Area is good. If you can make it to the upper peninsula, hit any beaches along the west side of the Keewenaw Peninsula during gale season and you will be golden.
