As Mr. Bishop noted in the Women's Forum thread, the Lady Gabber is up and running. It's under the "Forums" tab as the others are. A heads up, only ladies can post in there right now.

So ladies please head over there and check it out. There will be a thread in there where I would love your input!

I want to start a thread about all-chick bands (or predominantly female, or female fronted ones), who I think are just about the coolest thing in music. I can't do that because I have a dick.

Where is this coming from? Is this some sort of reaction to Krotch's quasi-controversial hot-topic thread? Or has this been cooking for a long time?

A real feminist would know that dudes can be down for the cause too, and they don't have to sit on the sidelines and watch.

Newschoolers is whack. But I've known that for some time now.

Bad idea in my opinion.

IF a pink name started a thread or posted in a thread bitching/whining about a guy/blue name, said guy/blue name will most likely start a thread in SD or even NSG complaining about the pink name.

I can't see the guy/blue name contacting said pink name or even a mod/admin about it, dealing with it that way...

Lady Gabber should really be only viewable to pink names, female purple names, female orange names, mods and admins.

Either way, it's a double standard. If you want to have some sort of haven like that for women to talk about women (which is fucked up that there has to be such a place anyway), you should be allowed to post there as a guy if you want to participate and contribute to the discussion. If you don't want to play nice, there should be some heavy bans passed down.

To be totally honest though, it sort of seems like a cop out. Instead of outlawing sexist behavior and speech and enforcing it strictly, you've really just removed the girls from the guy zone and moved them somewhere else. I mean really, what you're saying to every woman on this site is:

"Look ladies, all these forums, the ones with actual topics? They're for the big dogs. The ones with big dog balls. You little things with your pink names might be offended by some of the things us masculine dudes vomit up in these forums. But it's ok. You can hang out over here, in your nice little girly hang-out. It's all girls there."

I mean it's great, but at the same time, what is it really saying? There are still some pretty powerful sexist undertones.

Shit, I don't even really care. Maybe I'm just bummed I couldn't make my chick-band thread somewhere I'd get support for it instead of getting told to stop being such a feminist bitch by a bunch of misogynistic dudes. Maybe I just don't like feeling excluded. Maybe I'm just writing this steam of consciousness and none of it makes any sense.

Not sure why that was downvoted. Everyone can say their opinion, and it shouldn't be downvote just because. Especially when it was said as politely/simply as his was. At least in my little world :)

I might be misinterpreting what you're saying but it feels like the sexist undertones idea you're speaking of is mainly directed at the mods and they're implementing of the forums.

You touched on it, but I feel it's more important to draw attention to the fact that it's pathetic this forum is even necessary. If you go stalk the Lady Gabber you'll see a whole handful of pinknames coming out of the woodwork. I wish this was made a bigger deal so that the general population would see how much less of a bro-party this site could be if we stopped acting like imbeciles.

I think putting blame back on the mods is unfair considering what an overwhelming push from the pinknames there was to get this forum going. With all the momentum it gathered by ALL the women on this site, it would have been kinda shitty to just say no.
 
Lady Gabber is awesome. I don't think it's really meant to separate us. We can still post in any other forums but it's like an extra forum just for us. There's so few active girls on here so It's cool that we can all get together and have our own forum. Also, how pointless would it be to make a thread regarding something chick related just for a bunch of guys to post in and most likely derail and make a joke out of? Guys basically run nsg, lets be honest.

I just find it really weird that we can view it but not post in it. I think they should let the girls completely run it and not let us be able to look at it at all. because otherwise you guys still have to censor what you say, like a bunch you girls posted up your social media names now anyone on newschoolers can follow you.

There is no censor-free zone. Rednames came into the EBI cult and banned Hugo for something he said in what we thought was supposed to be private.

obviously it's going to be moderated, but I don't see the point of allowing guys to creep and see what they say. I feel like a eventually girls are going to forget that guys can see what they write and it's going to come back to them. They're trying to make a free/safe zone for women to talk, but it's not free because we'll see everything they say.

You guys can up/down vote too haha. I thought it was weird at first but for example If anyone were to talk shit about a blue name or something, other people would see and be able to call us out on. It's probably better to do it that way.

Also, I highly doubt any of the girls who posted there social media info care if ns sees it. I mean, there's an instagram and snapchat thread so this isn't really any different
 
^ I guess it's not a big deal but I just don't see the point in it. Let pink names talk about and support whatever they want, keep it inside the small group of girl free skiers I just feel like that's the best way to keep it core and the best functioning for you guys. but being that I don't have a vagina I don't really have much say in the matter and it in no way effects me.

Rednames can you make a fishing forum?? Us fisherman on NS are afraid to post in NSG about fishing because people might hate on us!

I dont think any girls are going to post threads bitching about other members. Thats 150% not the point of lady gabber or Newschoolers at all. If you have a problem with a specific member you should either take it up with them or talk to a mod.

I agree. As much as I'd do that myself (if I had a problem with anyone), it doesn't always work out and then I would obviously get a mod involved.

I don't even "creep" into Lady Gabber anyway, I have no reason to.

And just so it's out there, I 100% fully support having female members having their own "space" to chat freely amongst themselves without having any fear of "omg show me your tits, tits or GTFO, girls can't ski, etc..." in every thread.
 
I really like the lady gabber. I've already seen a response from the female population, and all of it is positive. There's pinknames talking who I've NEVER seen be active before. I'm stoked this happened.

That's awesome! I'm really glad on the effect it's having for girls on the site, and I'm glad that girls are stoked on it.

However, I will stick by the fact that it's sort of just covering up a wound instead of actually healing it. There are tons of issues with lady gabber.

I think it reflects really poorly on the community that we do have to create a separate space for girls to feel safe and comfortable speaking, and in turn, I think it represents why there aren't more girls in skiing.

While I completely agree with you on some points, (the fact we had to make another forum for girls to fell comfortable on the site is irritating.) I'd also like to disagree. I think if anything it can help draw girls to the site, and from there they can branch out. It's really rough to start on NS as a pink name. If it would have been around when I joined the site for the first time, I may have stayed on NS and not taken a three year break.

That article is a really good example of the bias in action sports. It's not just skiing that has this problem.
 
Could simply make a cult. Instead goes through more effort to make another forum. Hell you can easily change tbe settings in a cult, boot members etc. Lady gabber is lolz

Well, I for one have been enjoying watching the Ladies Ski Edits this evening. There's some solid skiing in there.

And it's not like there's a lack of private cults around here.
 
The decision to make it publicly view-able was so that female 'lurkers' can poke through the threads. There isn't a way for me to tell if someone is female or not if they have not yet created an account.

This isn't intended as some sort of big 'fix' for the girl issue, its just a place where some ladies can have a good time online. Cults come with a layer of complexity that is a lot of overhead to get going. They aren't publicly view-able, which makes it feel different. Again, for the ladies who haven't decided to make an account.

So don't worry about it boys, just let the girls do their thing. So far it is actually looking decently successful, which I'm thrilled about.

Keep on keepin' on girls, do your thing.

I mean I support it, but I'm biased. I honestly do think that there's a substantial 'win' happening here. Of course there's the question of if it lasts long term.... but if it does, then we've empowered girls, taken away the shithead dudes who were bringing them down and its a blowout party of awesomeness.

Shit, even if it doesn't last, its certainly proof of concept. So fuck yes ladies.... take this win and rally around it.
