Lacrosse Players, faster shot?

does anybody know some good ways to make your shot faster for free?

I checked some links of websites but they were all expired and thought NS might know some good tips

yea take a thick dowell tie 2-3ft of rope to it and put weights on the other end and roll the weights vertically by rolling the dowell keep adding weights as your wrists get stronger

A trick I learned from a maryland alumni is pretty neat. get a buddy and just pass & catch from a long distance (like 100 yards). but instead of just throwing it to him, throw it on a rope and work on trying to get it to him. of course forearm curls are always good when you're in the weight room

ummm... it costs money to get better? i mean i think itd be harder to find ways that cost money than every sensible way there is to do it for free...

ive been doing this but not keeping track of how many shots. also, i have a old hockey goal, and halfof it is ripped, i usually just stay late after practice and shoot

There is the grip stiks and weighted shafts and all those things, i really just meant things i could do in my yard or whatever,my bad

this. you can use your lacrosse stick. tie a rope around the middle and then tie the other end through the hole in the weights. hold your arms out in front of you and lift the weights by rotating the stick and wrapping the rope around it. it works for hockey so i would imagine it would help lacrosse too.

It has very little to do with your arm strength. When you shoot focus on your legs and core(abs) this is where all your speed will come from.

also if you focus on keeping your planting leg straight then it will end up making your shot go faster because instead of putting energy into the ground its like keeping it in you and this somehow trasfers over to the velocity of your shot. that makes no sense but i read it in lacrosse magazine and it has something to do with kienmatics and like using the most of your energy effecintly or something. another thing is shoot over hand.... no matter what. it honestly will go so much faster if you do it the right way than if you shot sidearm. just try to coil up your body by pretty much turning your back to the goal and then just release.

this may seem real confusing, but it works

when you practice shooting, shoot with a heavier no-bounce ball, and if you dont have one, cut open a tennis ball and put penny in it, and then when you go to shoot a regular one, it'll be faster. and also, give your pocket more whip ^^

use a small medicine ball or attach your stick to a rope on a ledge with weights

work on your core strength and focus on putting power into your shot using your torso and legs more than the muscles in your arms and shoulders

i hear my K18's used one season for $30 makes youi shoot 135 mph. could be wrong, but probably not.

how much, i made one out of pennys and sand in a old shaft but i have been using it for around 2 years and last week it snapped

what i learned when i went to a camp was instead of arms, you want to twist your whole upper body then when you shoot you use all of your core muscles, arms and everything together, you almost want your front shoulder pointed past the goal if that makes sense, like your shoulder does a 270, helped me shot 70mph, hope it helps you

Theres little to do with whip guys. Its all preference. I have no whip on my stick and i can hit 80's. It also doesnt matter about side arm or over hand. thats all preference aswell. I can (personally not everyone) shoot faster sidearm. When we clocked it was like 5 mph faster. The only reason coaches tell you to shoot overhand is because you can change the plane of your shot much easier resulting in more goals.

i used to have a ton of whip and now i have no where near as much and i shoot faster now, ike he above said i think its mosty preference

thats the stupidest question ive ever heard
how do i get better at lacrosse for free?
uhh practice and exercise

Yeah but the more whip the longer the ball will stay in your stick before being released, longer its in the stick=longer you have to put power behind it=faster shot

In the summer fill your stick with sand to weight it and play lots of wall ball and practice shooting with it. When you go to play dump all the sand out and you'll pass and shoot much faster

core back and arm strength training. completley free if you find exercises and do them on your own. also work on your technique, using your whole body through the entire shot. and take many shots over and over to work on keeping them accurate.

you dont really have to keep track of how many shots you take, you can take 1000 shots with bad technique and find that your shot hasn't got any faster

upper-body lower-body separation and shooting overhand is where your speed will come from (i was taught not to shoot side-arm)

If you've ever played baseball, you know that the coaches always tell you to use your hips and core to power the bat. Same with lax. Lead with you're hips, not your arms, and kind of wind up like a spring, work on using every muscle in your body at the same time when you shoot. So you wind up, start rotating your hips, then torso, then crank your arms around.

squat, do a shit load of abs, take an old shaft and put sand or rocks in it or something

take something heavy, tie it into your pocket, then put a plastic bag or two over your head and go through the shooting motion a lot

and just shoot a lot man. arms away from the body, explode from your hips and core. just shoot

yea leg strength and core are huge...do pilatis and yoga seriously it balances you out and gives you a good core, and flexibility...also if you dont want to spend money do the tennis ball penny thing..or take an old shaft and fill it with sand it makes it mad heavy

This for sure. Don't listen to these idiots up top. Every single weekend when I watch college lacrosse they talk about shot speed and shooting and shit like that, it gets kind of annoying, but its all in the hips. Work on efficiency of motion and derive the power from your hips. Steele Stanwick, one of the best attack-men in NCAA division 1 lax as a sophomore can barely bench 135 but has one of the best and fastest shots. Shot speed definitely does't come from forearm/upper body strength

My brother's college room mate and best friend was (maybe still is) dating Coco Stanwick, his sister, who was an amazing girls lax player at georgetown and like was all over lax mags and shit. I met her, she was a beast

Im sorry but your wrong. you control where you release the ball. Just think about it this way, when people dont follow througj, their intending to releasethe ball high and vice versa. When you develop your skills you learn this, you probably just dont think about it. When people shoot you can control where you release it. Say I shoot over hand and i want to go high to high. I release it higher than normal. When I want to bounce the ball I release it low. To make this clear. WHIP HAS NO AFFECT ON THE SPEED OF ONES SHOT. Im teaching this to my second and third graders now.

Where you release depends on how you wind up, release, etc. But if you stick has a hard time keeping the ball in then its going to release earlier then if it can hold onto the ball. Im not saying whip is all it has to do with, but it can definitely make a persons shot release later and thus be faster.

my lacrosse coach was able to relate skiing to lacrosse shot. Use a similar motion to winding up before spinning really hard, except with your stick wound up, ready to shoot. Take a drop step (dominante foot) then step with the opposite foot (still wound up) then explode with your core and your arms/ whole upword body in a shot. ive been doing this more latly (midfeild) and it really gets a ton of power, especially for those farther out shots when you really have time to wind it up and crank it.

Im not trying to attack you or anything but i'm just trying to prove my point. Your referring to hold, not whip. You have the most control over where you release the ball. Not your wind up. Go outside and play wall ball for a couple of minutes and really focus on your release point. It's all you. Not your wind up. Ive been playing lacrosse for roughly 10 years now and i'm 17 years old. Im not saying i have the most experience but in those 10 years ive been around the sport a ton and i also coach a youth program through my school. I also have 4 former D1 coaches coaching me. I asked them about it today. I know that sounds like the biggest claim ever but their response was. No whip does not increase your shot speed. Sometimes enough whip can slow your shot down. Getting back to the main point of the thread. Heres your key to a free solution. Find 5 old tennis balls. Make about a 1 inch cut into them. Find as many pennies as you can and shove them into each one. Burn over the slit. (it will not close) Then put tope over and re burn it. My routine after practice is get 60 shots in with these tennis balls. First off your going to put your feet square to a wall/back of a net and take 10 wristers righty and lefty (theres 20 shots). then your going to get in a shooting position and do 10 cranks on each hand. DO NOT STEP. (theres 40 shots) Then to finish it off, do 10 step down cranks. (theres your 40). Im sorry Fillup. I just had to put my in put. You may be right but imjust telling him what i know ya dig.

the mans right...the amount of whip you have is not for speed purposes but for control purposes and everyone has a different preference
