so i've had a 250 gb Lacie rugged hard drive since feb. and i use it all the time and then i plugged it in today a window came up that said that the disk is not readable by this computer. I use the computer with the hard drive all the time so i'm kinda confused. o ya the computer is a Macbook from like a year or two ago. HELP!

^^ what he said, i hope for you it isnt broken, most people have no idea of how delicate external harddrives can be...

^^yeah I thought that that would work but it says in the manual that it doesn't need to have a driver installed on macs

im not a big mac person, and i am not familiar wtih that specific hdd enclosure, but a few things that can cause your disk to go bad are power surges from the power going out while its switched on, and not properly disconnecting it and powering it off can also damage the disk

chances are the index/file tree is corrupted and your data is safe, but the computer just cant access the index to find where it is at. this can also happen if you have a huge number of indivivdual directories (i.e. if you have mass music albums). try to find some good recovery software if you dont haev any luck, i use getdataback ntfs but i have a pc so im not sure what to use for mac

hope that helped

yeah, and if that don't work, and you really need/want those files back, there are specialized companies for data recovery, they can get data back from everything, they're amazing, but the price is amazing too :(

thank for teh help. I don't really wan to pay money to fix it. but going back, where would i find the drivers to install
