Krav Maga and martial arts

Anybody here take classes? I'm thinking about getting into a martial art but dont wanna get into all that slow kicking and slashing the air bullshit. Mainly looking for practical self defense. I looked up Krav Maga and like the philosophy and effectiveness behind it.

I wrestled in highschool and am continuing that with boxing in college, problem is, there seem to be no Krav Maga schools or instructors in Iowa. Wondering if anyone here is semi self taught and how they did it.

Take krav maga or systema, those are the two most practical, ruthless self defense systems ever created. It's hard to find a place with a good teacher, I was blessed, my instructor was a 5th degree black belt in systema, the guy was fuckibg lethal. It's expensive, but once you commit it's completely worth it

i used to do muay thai, i really enjoyed it. learned a lot.

i've heard a lot of good things about krav maga, and many people are quick to recommend it. it can get pricey but it's a great hobby and a great workout.

One of my friends said it best when he told me: Karate is when you get attacked, and you kick the opponent, then back off. Krav Maga is where you get attacked, then knee him in the balls, pull his head back by his hair then punch him repeatedly in the throat

haha i heard another one that pretty much said, Krav Maga turns the attacker into the victim. Still looking but finding noone in iowa that teaches in it. Looks like im going to have to go the self taught route.

I'm currently sitting in my martial arts school waiting for class to start. my advice would to be do it, I absolutely LOVE martial arts.
