Knee braces

i've seen a few videos where it looks like the guys have knee braces on for backcountry. i've never worn braces, but was wondering if its a good idea, and if so whats a good brand of brace?

I would only do it if you've had a knee surgery and your doctor tells you to. wearing all that stuff when you don't really need it will make your knees dependent... then when you don't wear it one day, explosion within!

DonJoy makes good braces...

I've got a knee brace that I have to wear for any type of skiing (surgeons order after partial ACL tear). Do you have a bad knee or just want one to prevent injury? Mine is made by Donjoy, but it was $1600. Insurance covered the cost because it was prescribed by my doctor though...

there are preventative knee braces. it relies on the muscles in your legs and on the brace. takes the impact off your knees.... i think haha

my uncle never goes out without his and i was wondering the same thing. It just seems like it would be easier to not go thought all that shit and just get the braces now but they are so expensive so im not sure if its worth it. BY the way my uncles were from post surgery

would a knee ligament brace work for a microfracture? not sure if anyone has had that but just had the surgery a couple weeks ago wondering if it would support it the same way as a torn acl or something for skiing

ehhh somewhat.. had both injuries and my surgeon told me everything in the knee is related, therefore takin pressure off the acl will in turn take pressure off the fracture etc etc etc.. so yes it will take some of the pressure off but it will not fully protect you from worsening or reinjuring the fracture

I ski, play offensive line in football, and catcher in basesball. Between the three my knees take a beating. I haven't had any significant injuries, but often after doing one of these 3 i have pain in my knees.

the verdict here seems to be mixed. i have been thinking about getting some brace but i'm not sure.

so just wanted to bring this back to the top and get some opinions

ya, i talked to the trainer at my highschool but didn't get much out of that, i'm going to my doctor soon so i'll talk to him. i just wanted to see if other people have experience with them

I used to ski with Asterisk and now im on CTis.. CTis are def way better than Asterisk, but yeah its a great idea to use braces when you ski.

i mean i dunno.. i skiid a full season six months after full knee surgery on meniscus and acl and didnt wear a brace once and actually felt pretty great on it.. theres something about skiing that strengthens it and as long as you dont jam it weird or twist it it seems like it can actually help you out skiing on it

CTi and Asterisk are knee braces i would recommend. i need one for my right knee but go without. near the end of the season tho it hurts like a mother hucker.

I've skied with an Asterisk cell system since I injured my knee and i love it. it is a very good idea to have some sort of padding or brace for your knees, because they do take some serious abuse.

this could have been prevented by simply getting a knee pad.
