KKK adopting a high way.

This is fucked up, I just got an E-Mail to sign this petition against the KKK adopting a highway in Georgia. If you want to help stop this BS sign here:

http://www.change.org/petitions/don-t-let-the-kkk-adopt-a-highway?utm_source=action_alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=WYPkghwMbZ&alert_id=WYPkghwMbZ_LoqDnKmoydand read the article.:

The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is an organization intent on promoting white supremacy through terrorism and political violence.[/b] Throughout their 150+ years of activity, they've organized and carried out lynchings, bombings, cross burnings and actively campaigned against the Civil Rights Movement and desegregation. Anyone who does not fit their narrow definition of being a "true American"- white and Christian- is a target of their violence, including African Americans, Catholics, Jews, immigrants, communists, etc. Their death toll numbers are in the thousands and the damages they have inflicted on our country are immeasurable.[/b]

And now, the Ku Klux Klan wants to "adopt" a highway in Georgia.[/b]

The "adopt a highway" program allows local civic-minded organizations to help clean up stretches of highways in return for free advertising along the road. Meaning the KKK would be able to advertise their organization and increase their membership on public land, for free[/b].

Harley Hanson, the leader of the Klan's Realm of Georgia who filed the application for the Klan, says: "I love my race. Does that make me wrong? I'm proud to be white."

As a Georgia resident, I do not want a highway funded by taxpayer dollars to become an advertising site for an organization that has murdered, maimed and terrorized American people for 150 years. [/b]The KKK is not a civic-minded organization; they are a domestic terror group.

"What's next, are we going to let Neo-Nazis or the Taliban or al-Qaida adopt highways?" asks State Rep. Tyrone Brooks.

And I agree. So now I'm calling on the Georgia Department of Transportation to reject the KKK's application to adopt a highway.[/b] Terrorists have no place on the sides of our highways.

Spark notes: KKK wants to adopt a highway stretch in Georgia in order to advertise their organisation for free.

so they pick up trash and the little sign that says adopted by will say KKK. who cares. if anyone has an issue they can blow it out their ass, the adopt a highway program has been going for decades anyone could have signed up before the KKK.

Sounded more like they could have a bigger sign with ads promoting their ideas. I am no expert on this it just interested me. KKK is by all means a terrorist organisation so I find it amazing they can still exist in this day and age let alone advertise on a public highway.

If you knew were they held rallies you could plant some tnt/c4 and blow them up? I don't think many people will care. And is it even possible to promote terrorism in murica?

that's stupid

i am not sure how big of a deal the KKK is nowadays. kind of read a lot about it and saw a few documentaries and its heydays certainly are over

no. I am an expert, having driven on our nations highways.

The signs are simple and the same for anyone who wants to help.

I bet in the last 20 years the Boy Scouts of America have been responsible for more bullshit than the KKK. Same goes for the fuckin' democrats. *fist shake

Imagine if Neo-Nazis adopted a highway,,,, would you guys be okay with that? They are both terror organisations that surprisingly still exist in our country.

Counter arguments to people saying that it's okay:Why People Are Signing

I don't think an organization That promotes hate, racism, and has a history of civil rights crime should be allowed to advertise and recruit on public land

Letting them adopt a stretch of highway is akin to condoning their behavior, which I do not, and do not think Georgia should either. Hare groups should not be allowed to broadcast their name on the freeways for all to see.

The KKK is and has always been completely antithetical to American values. They should not be given an opportunity to promote their despicable profile.

KKK is a terrorist group because they believe in violence and blatant discrimination. Why should we support this in ANY WAY ?????

[/list]

When I was in Alabama I came across a skin head gathering. there were a lot of big pick up trucks with Confederate flags hanging off of them at a park. It was sketch so we dipped out. Not trying to stay around there especially with my friend who is half black. First time I had come across one of those.

the KKK these days more closely resembles a book club than anything else.

They get together, gossip, hate stuff, and then move on.

Some of the people in this thread are hilarious. They are terrorists, we should blow them up at their next meeting.

I hate how violent they are about a whole group of people, if I saw someone wearing one of their shirts, I would shoot on site...

It's like saying I hate people because they hate people...It's just a bit silly.

Not that I agree with the KKK, or white supremacy or anything of that sort, but people are being a bit hypocritical.

What the KKK do is constitutional and legal until they kill someone, but those are the radical few in the group. I think it should be allowed even though they are ignorant and dumb.

but they are using public gorund to display it, doesn't that change things legally? It's a question, not an objection

That's stupid. Let them pick up the trash. They aren't breaking any laws, and we shouldn't set the precedent that if you're "controversial" then the rules are different and more stringent for you. If it bothers local blacks, let them organize a bikeride right by their garbage-picking sessions. Then, if the KKK guys retaliate, it's all over the news, they get more bad press, and then the local government has a reason to force them out.

Just saying "you're bad" shouldn't work. Fuck, the picture above where some democrat group adopted a highway is more offensive to me than the KKK. Racism, we can combat pretty easily. Huge government? That's another story, and a lot harder to resist than some racist minority faction.

So they're actually trying to do something good for once by cleaning up a stretch of road and people want it stopped because of a tiny sign with KKK on it that no one reads?

Might bring tourist revenue to their county because I would travel across the country just to throw bags of shit on that stretch of the road.
