Kinda shit at park - looking to improve

Im a pretty shit park skiier, very consistent on just sliding rails, 3s, frontflips and backflips , can slide unnatty on boxes and tubes as well as sw/ on - have learned these in the last couple months as im trying to take a more practical 'training approach' to improving. I currently only get to ride park for max 3 hours a week as im in the UK so can only ski in indoor snowdomes. BUT.. im going to NZ over summer and want to work park maintenance, so will try to get at least 60 full park days over the course of the season.

The question is how much improvement is possible over that span of time? To medal in UK comps i probably need consistent FS/BS, 2s on and off, maybe 4s on and off for rails. cork 7s, sw/ backflips, misty 5s as well as some more extreme stuff to pull out in finals.

people who have worked park maintenance before; how much did you improve over the course of a season, or how much have you seen people improve - is my goal attainable?

all that in one season? very unlikely. 2-3 seasons? if you grind it out you could probably make it happen.

A lot of the best guys in the division are leaving and I do have the opportunity to do 2 summer seasons before i'm ineligible to compete so you're saying there's a chance? ahaha

that's kind sick you're from Britain bro.

[tag=283506]@SchizoSkier[/tag] didn't you just start skiing like 2 years ago

thx man - i checked out [tag=283506]@SchizoSkier[/tag] and yeah from his clips i'd say if i can get to that kinda level i can make top 5 maybe 1/2 podiums depending on how many of the really good people leave (worth noting we only have 6/7 comps throughout the course of the season - 3 for university, 3 that are mostly uni students but open entry, and a couple which are like national level comps) - my best place so far is just outside top 10 (from 75ish competitors)

Also thought i'd mention - i have already done a season, skied like 140 days, but none in park, only freeride stuff - that combined with gymnastics training that i've been doing means my aerials are ok but its rails that i really have struggled with

Where in nz are you going? I spent this past winter down at cardrona / treble cone and am sure you could reach your trick goals down there if you’re dedicated and stay healthy. If you’re looking to learn spins definitely get a membership at SITE, it’s a freestyle tramp park in wānaka which helped me progress from being okay at misty 5s to cork 10s and everything in between in three months. It’s nice cause you can try a trick on tramp and then take it to snow the next day

Currently looking at Mt Hutt as they have postings for park crew which i think is the best way to ensure i stay in the park and dont neglect it like i did last season.. though i think that being in NZ ill be less prone to do freeride stuff due to the limited terrain - im currently training in a gymnastics gym once a week but just suffered a knee dislocation so thats halted for a little while lol, looking to get fit again for the BRITS comp in early May where i imagine ill finish somewhere in the 30s/40s :(

Where in the UK can you ski park? Nowhere near me in the south east.

Im in Birmingham so ski at Tamworth snowdome indoors, theres a bigger one in milton keynes which is pretty expensive, one in hemel hempstead i think? i know Tam and MK run freestyle nights on tuesdays as well as thursdays for MK only. also dryslopes everywhere, closest to you is probs sandown? but idk if they do any freestyle stuff. awesome dryslope park setup in Gloucester and they run airbag sessions the first monday? of every month i think.

I’ve been skiing for about 3 years atp (but I broke my back lack season and missed most of the season)

Just ski with ppl who are better than you and you’ll progress quickly

if you're doing 3s and front/backflips, you're well on your way. every jump trick is just a combination of spins and flips anyway. you're going to learn so much getting that much time riding the park. just make sure that before you try something, you can see the whole thing in your head. don't try tricks that you can't visualize. have fun
