Hey so im new to park and only know a few trick but this season i am really gonna put in work and get better. I got a pair of k2 press 2017-2018. And i feel like if i start out being total shit at park and cant do anything I feel like the people who are very good at park will give me shit for not being very good and pt me down about how im not very good. Dose anyone have any good ideas on how to get around this problem.

most people wont give a shit about your skill level g! everyones there for the same reason man. everyone wants to have fun and progress. yeah some people might be better than you, but everyones been there before. from personal experience, a lot of guys will try to help you out as much as possible. dont be afraid to talk to people and ask for help ya know? i feel like as long as your not talking up a big game and exaggerating your skill level people will respect you. yeah there will be a couple of dicks who think there some hot shit but thats the same in any sport/activity. just ignore them and do your thing g! just have fun!

Bro I’ve been there this past season and it held me back sooo hard, like I probs could’ve been doing corked 7s or something if I wasn’t worried about everyone else. Just don’t care about everyone else cos they’re all there to get better, the same reason as you.

hey man thank you so much I think that im just worrying about what every one els thinks and not achally working on what i love most in life wich is SKIING

Dude, fuck those people that put others down for their skiing. Be tough and just practice and progress at your speed. Dont get lost in what others say. Dont ever let anybody take the joy of skiing from you. D bags are everywhere. Dont mind them.

"whats the speed like on the jumpline"

WOW! You just made a new friend and you will hit the jump with proper speed

You don't actually have a problem. You just need a mental shift. Are you good at having fun? If not focus on that. Have fun out there while you are learning and people that like to have fun will like you. If someone knows all the tricks and then puts you down just because you're new then they suck.

unless its some dickweed that probably hasnt hit the entire line that just says "why dont you drop in and find out"

I'm sure pwoppe have already said but people aren't gonna give you shit if you're not good, more than not theyrthgonna want to help you. Also had a pair of the presses from 14/15 and they've been my go to park skis for dryslope and snowdome and two weeks in France and came out fine, so don't think you need a pair of vishnu's or whatever to get good

You'll likely face either encouragement or indifference. If people are giving you shit, fuck those posers.

I ski in oregon mt.bachelor

Okay that's good you should be able to start in the mini park and get use to the small jumps and boxes in there then work your way up to the small and medium size parks and by that point in your park career you should know if you like jumps or rails better but make sure that you work on both when your starting out

Yeah for sure but I think that im gonna try there devo freestyle time this season so i can get better but also practice on my own in the park.

I had this same fear a few years back. True story: about my second season skiing park and I'm standing above a jump contrmplating a 180 and some random kid skis up next to me and asks what I'm gonna do. I tell him I'm shit and I can't really do anything. He tells me he's gonna send a 360 and wants me to follow him up with one. I was nervous cuz there were a bunch of other people waiting on the knuckle to go. He drops in and naturally stomps. I follow him up and stomp my first 3 of the season. I Was throwing them left and right for the rest of the day all because some homie came up and encouraged me to do it. He was clearly a stud and could have been throwing 9s but he wasn't a dick, noticed that I was not as skilled as him and personally invited me into the park skiing game rather than showing off. You may run into some assholes, but for the most part were all here to have fun and get better

The absolute best thing you can do is learn more about "Park Etiquette".

The basics:

-Don't stand on the landing of anything - Jump, rail, whatever. Pay attention to where you stop, and if its a landing - get the fuck out of the way immedaitely.

-Don't drop into a feature in front of someone. Check if someone has that feature lined up already, and if there's a line of people waiting, wait your turn. Bonus points for calling "Dropping" when you go if you're in a crowd.

-Don't jump off the sides of rail takeoffs. As an Ex park staff, I can tell you it messes up the lips of the jumps, plus it is generally just bad form. Once you're as cool as The Bunch and you're noodling around everywhere, you can break this rule.

Just learning isn't much of a problem, nobody is going to make fun of you because you can't get your first 360. Most will help.

However, stand in a landing once or cut someone off when they had a sick trick lined up and you'll make enemies for a long time.

Stoked to hear you're wanting to up your park game. Learning a new sport is always tough but something everyone has to do at some point but a piece of useful info for you would be to get yourself some freestyle training products and/ or get down to your local trampoline centre. This will just help a tonne with air awareness and getting used to spins and landings.

say waddup to people, ask how the speed is for a jump, etc. 99% of people in the park are 100% nicer than they can appear at first (same as in real life!)

the 1% of people that are going to be dicks aren't people you should be planning around. ive seriously met so few actually good riders who would even consider spending time hating on a noob. we've all been there and helping someone else learn the ropes and have fun is one of skiing's higher pleasures. ive had days shredding with little rippers learning grabs that rival some of my best days ripping with a sick wingman

ideally you group up with some people who can show you around. boom, youre over the mental hurdle of feeling lonely and small in the park, plus skiing with those better than you is far and away the best way to get better

go git it dog, the only person you're competing against out there is yourself

Hey man, I'm from the UK and did a season in Canada last winter. Im a good all mountain skier so wanted to get better at park. I was 24 when I went so obviously one of the older guys in the park for my ability which made me pretty self conscious. So much so that it definitely held me back from progressing as fast. Which I regret, because nobody is judging you. The really good guys are far too focused on they're doing themselves to care, which is why they've got so good. And loads of people would offer me advice and tips. After seeing me fall on a box one day at Sunshine one dude skied with me all afternoon and helped me eventually nail it. Props to Donny! Moral of this story: nobody is there to laugh at people trying to get better, most people wont even notice you. If they do, they'll probably help you out.

If you're not an asshole people probably wont be assholes to you. Have good park etiquette. Talk to other park skiers on the lift and let them know you're new and interested in learning. Most people are pretty open to teaching or lending a hand when it comes to getting into park.

Skiing with people who are better than you pushes you to become a better skier.
