Killington/Boston

I currently live in Boston and bought a 365 pass to Killington this winter after having the ikon last year and realizing that Killington was the easiest place to get to from Boston plus the offering of terrain and apres scene, grew up skiing Whiteface in NY. (wow! another angry person from Boston at Killington on the weekends).

For others that live in Boston/surrounding area that do not have a ski house or friends ski house to crash at, what is your typical weekend? Last year I would drive to Killington on Saturday mornings, ski, drive to my sisters in Saratoga (1.5 hours away), hit the mountain for a half day on Sunday and proceed back to Boston, not ideal but allowed me to ski four-six days a month.

Looking for recommendations of motels, airbnbs, bed and breakfasts or other avenues aside from sleeping in the car now that I am a washed up weekend warrior trying to maximize time on the hill and less time in the car.

Thanks!

I grew up in Upstate NY skiing Whiteface an now live in NYC and ski Killington on weekends, so i can relate!

Funny enough, I usually stay at a friends in Saratoga but Ive also got motels in the past up in the mountains. Ill try to find out which and check back...

I had the Ikon my first year in Boston and the Epic the following two years. Recently moved out of the city, but here was my experience.

Driving up north on Friday evenings was the worst. Southern VT was always the toughest, because I'd typically go through Cambridge then take route 2 through the Boston suburbs. Dark and windy roads all the way up. Sounds like you'll probably take i93 to Killington which is also brutal on any night, but especially Fridays. It's also littered with speed traps until you hit i89. I would always try to leave on Thursday PM, Friday AM, or Saturday AM for those reasons. Mid-week skiing is also a life-changing experience too if you can swing some days off.

VT and NH areas all have affordable hotels depending on your standards. The lodging is obviously expensive directly around the resort, but there are usually cheaper options 10-15 minutes out. NH tends to be a bit cheaper than VT in my experience, but that isn't always the case. Maine has the fewest options either way lol. I also took some day trips to Stratton while I was on the ikon. Not the easiest day trip at 3hrs each way, but doable if you're eager.

Otherwise, the drives back on Sundays was usually pretty painless. I usually skied a full morning then left the hill around noon. Carpooling is also great if you can find some other skiers in the city. There are tons of Ikon and Epic people around.

Gosh, I know. Its so frustrating having to post on skiing forums to find Airbnb's to stay at!

If only Airbnb had an app or a website you could use to find available rentals near Killington........ hhmmmm........

Car camp at skyship. If its really cold I'll stay at turn of river in the bunkroom. similar situation where someone I know lives 1:20 so thats also been part of it to. Theres no affordable options in the area really. I think truck camper wood stove combo is the way although I have just an SUV right now.
