Heading up to banff this week for an little family trip with some old ladies... want to get a solid hike in one day while the fame is on a down day.

Staying at kicking horse. What hikes do people recommend in the area/resort? More importantly is it all melted out? Looking for something around 10 miles, difficult.

Can I hike the ski hill? Read it's about 4k' vertical?

Thanks!

Parks Canada is good about keeping updated trail conditions posted

This year is Canada's 150th anniversary. Go figure, eh? To celebrate, Parks Canada is offering free annual passes to everyone (Canadians, Americans, everyone)! You can order your Parks Canada pass ahead of time here:http://www.pc.gc.ca/en/voyage-travel/admission

Parks Canada was so polite that they even shipped my pass to me in the US, for free. I'm stoked on Canada this year!

It's pretty melted up there. People are getting into the alpine bike trails now. If you are staying at the hill, take the gondola up and go for a hike along the ridge. Head to T4 for a bad ass view of Glacier Ntl Park and the Columbia Valley. It's a mellow hike as the gondy gets you up high but its a few km and well worth it. You can also head the other way and go to Ozone and down mini ridge, back to the resort and then hike down. It's less developed but obvious. That would probably be 6km or so.

Another dope option is to drive to town and head up Mount 7. It's the major peak across the valley from the resort, has a big snow 7 on it. Pretty obvious. There is a road that takes you up 5000ft then you can enjoy the view off the paragliders launch and the DH trail entrances. From here, you can do a 3-4 hr round trip hike up to the peak (where the 7 is).
