Keystone Mountain Safety lying

This video just came up in my YouTube suggestions, where a group of snowboarders are stopped by mountain safety while going down a green run.

They claimed the boarders were bombing down the run and were asked to stop and slow down multiple times. "everybody was yelling at you to slow down and you kept bombing"

What is shown on video is one yellow jacket saying "slow down", one of the boarders repeating that and the group slowing down. They continue past 3 or 4 other yellow jackets who don't say anything.

After being stopped the group is asked for their passes and told they have 2 weeks to take a course that's only on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Meanwhile in the background skiers fall, slow skiers are passed by faster skiers, and the 4 yellow jackets couldn't care less.

I wonder how many times this has happened and there hasn't been video evidence!

Has anyone had a similar situation?

saw that video aswell ! theres no need for yellow jackets all u need is ski patrol for when people get hurt.

Here is said video btw

edit: just got on my computer and realized it was already embedded and my first embed did work.. wasnt showing on the app

They definitely exaggerated the incident based on the video we saw. The main rider makes a hard heel side scrub turn immediately following the mountain safety guy doing the universal “slow down” motion.

The filmer also takes it seriously by telling everyone else that they were asked to slow down. I think mountain safety should’ve given a warning and left it at that. They weren’t young punk ass kids, they were relatively respectful and cooperative, so I don’t think it warranted the class.

I think they just should’ve said “hey...you’re good riders, but we are super busy, this is a crazy time of year and the skier/riders out there right now are not the typical guests. we are getting constant complaints about aggressive riding in slow areas, and we are going to be strict in this area so please work with us and really exaggerate slowing down through here”.

So yeah, I think it was over the top, and ticky tack, but it’s also really hard to judge speed and context from a fish eye GoPro video. We couldn’t see what everyone was doing, and sometimes yellow jackets observe people over multiple laps, and we don’t know whether other yellow jackets did similar slow down gestures earlier or just out of frame.

I will say I very much doubt they flipped them the bird, and I think personally they were in control and being mindful of other skiers and riders.

I actually feel for the Mountain Safety people though. Most miserable job on the mountain, totally thankless. Also, it was a Saturday over the holidays with over 15,000 skiers and riders there. It’s the busiest trail on the mountain, slow signs everywhere, everyone knows there’s yellow jackets there, and there’s countless kids and families everywhere. They spent the entire run boosting side hits, spinning, and drawing a lot of attention. It wasn’t a really good idea straight up, the likelihood of a yellow jacket run in was pretty high I’d say.

Keystone relies so heavily on families spending thousands over the holidays, they’ve decided that they need to take family complaints about fast and aggressive skiers/riders seriously to preserve their bottom line and also probably to minimize exposure to litigation in the event of serious collisions.

At the end of the day, EVERYONE knows this is how Keystone does business, especially this time of year, so vote with your wallet and go elsewhere, or stick to park laps or advanced terrain.
