some friends and i at URI were going to attend the pumpkin festival thing and see what the riots were about but through poor planning never got there. sounds like fun though

Keene's a huge shithole and this only proved that. Cops were totally warranted in their actions. just be happy no one got killed or tried to escalate the situation with law enforcement around.

Yeah, those were pepperballs. I was there for all of this and it was WAY out of control by about 2pm. I didn't expect that much violence to break out. I saw a girl get hit in the head with a tire, another with a 5 gallon plastic bucket, and another with a lawn chair. Then around 10pm I saw a pool table brought out of a house, snapped in half in the middle of the road, and burned to the ground. Wild experience to say the least.

As a plymouth student you guys fucked up big time. I know its a town event but expect way more enforcement on the college side next year.

Shit was entirely too wild. Police didn't do anything out of line that I saw. Their presence was totally necessary to keep the families and kids at the actual festival safe. Purposely throwing bottles at random people, flipping cars and destroying and burning shit in the street is completely out of line.
I'm actually fucking furious about this whole thing. I'm a film student here and I've worked super hard to try to set myself up for a career out of college and this could potentially tarnish the validity of my degree to an extent. People's attitudes about it are pretty disappointing TBH too. Everyone is sucking their own dick because they got up and picked up some bottles the next morning. That doesn't come close to making up for what happened IMO. People were rightfully terrified for their family's safety and had their property pointlessly destroyed.
I'm all for partying and having fun but the pointless destruction and injuring people by throwing bottles is douchebaggery to the highest degree. Luckily most of the people stupid enough to have been destroying shit were also stupid enough to post evidence of themselves doing it on social media. They'll be prosecuted and expelled for sure.

I was in Keene this past weekend and witnessed all of this...shit was insanely out of control and riot gear was absolutely necessary

I guess you could call it riots based on 2014 white people standards but I think there is a difference between rioting and what happened.
People are stupid and think it's fun to throw glass bottles, lawn chairs, buckets, and full beers into a crowd. You had to have your head up constantly or eventually you would get nailed. Many were injured.
In order to disperse the crowds police used tear gas, which was very effective. I was tear gassed twice. It's crazy how potent it is, if you were anywhere within 100 yards or so of the dispersion you'd feel it.
A car, lamp posts, and a dumpster were all destroyed by some bros. Destruction was caused by both students and visitors, regardless of how KSC students deny any involvement. What a joke.
Pretty much the population on campus more than doubles for a few days and authorities around just can't handle it. The police acted rightly in dispersing dangerous bottle throwing crowds, but also acted wrongly in other places.

Riots like this one and the one in a Bellingham, WA neighborhood a few months back are so dumb... Absolutely no reason for them other than LOLZ FUCK THE POLICE I LISTENED TO RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE AND WATCHED THE MATRIX A LOT!
