Kayaking near Portland?

Hey NS,

Me and a buddy are coming out to Portland for the weekend to pick up a boat on Craigslist and we're looking for some suggestions for some good runs anywhere near Portland. We're class iii-iv paddlers. It would also be tight if one of you guys wanted to join us!

well theres the gorge, the white salmon (run off of mt hood, so pretty cold), the sandy river (kinda dangerous around this time), rouge, daschutes, and a lot more. some of those, like the daschutes, are in eastern oregon so about a 3 hour drive from portland, but it also has some great day trips or overnight trips. personaly i prefer the rouge, but i've only ever done a over night trip on that, not sure if youre going day or over night. but yeah, hope that helps a little
 
ive never run it or talked to someone who has. its not really a popular run, but that being said it could be totally amazing and not really crowded. uf youre going through eastern oregon the lower daschutes has a good day run with mostly iii rapids and one iv
 
That looks like a fun one for sure. Unfortunately we're heading back towards Northern Idaho, so thats pretty far out of the way.

If you have any suggestions for something closer to the OR/WA border that would be awesome!
