Kayaking edit critique

Filmed this one in two days. The first day was from land, where I was able to get the timelapses and filler shots. The second was from my kayak, which allowed me to get to the island in the middle of the falls, to get most of the action shots. I had my tripod, slider and a few dryboxes to protect my camera and lenses. A lot of the shots had people flipping, or getting off line, so I couldn't use a lot of the shots I had that had cool composition. I had a rode mic, which was recording audio, but I mess around with it and could find a good way to incorporate it. The cicada sound at the beginning were recorded with the mic. It was just a teaser, so I didn't need that many shots.

Never asked you guys for a critique, cuz there is always something I'm not totally satisfied with in my edits. Whether its filming or editing, something is always off, but I was very pleased with the way this one came out, so rip me new one. Below is the way I presented the video to the public:

The 2012 Great Falls Race from Simon Braun on Vimeo.

The 2012 Great Falls Race will be on July 14, 2012, and is being put on by the staff and students of Liquid Adventures Kayak School, for the benefit of the American Whitewater Assn.

Please visit the website at greatfallsrace.org for more information concerning the race, for both spectators and racers. All racers MUST preregister prior to race day. Come out and support AW, who does so much for our sport!

I felt that the period of black screen when you switched from the lapse to the actual action, was a little long. Not by much, but it might be better if it was shorter. Thats all I have. Looks like an awesome place!

I did watch the whole whole thing, but the intro really made me not want to watch it personally. i just felt that it was too long. but other than that well done and good shots of the kayakers

Some of those drops looked insane.

First off, half of your edit is the intro, and it started to lose my attention after about 20 seconds. I'd lose the white text on black background, and instead use some of your more compelling whitewater shots as the background. The actual kayaking footage was solid, but I found intercutting between static and panning shots to be a bit jarring. And I wish we got to see a couple more POV shots; I imagine the GoPro footage from a few of those sections looks crazy.

I feel you on the intro, it was definitely dull and long, but I really wanted to show the contrast between low water in summer and the excitement of the race. Probably could have found another way to do it. I would have loved to get a hold of the GoPro footage, but I had a deadline and I was not able to get it before then. Thanks for the critique though. Were there any cuts in particular that you thought were jarring, so I can get an idea of what you're talking about?
