I don't really give a fuck about karma but I have noticed that it keeps getting higher and higher. Shouldn't it have a limit? What's going to happen when someone has 1,000,000,000 karma? I don't really understand the system. Is it based on how many members there are? I also have yet to see a positive thing come from it. I think feedback is way more useful.
 
karmas a pretty good system imo.

i dont think someone will ever get that high in karma haha, because that would take a really long time.
 
there are some things that are weighted far more than other things and people that keep doing the same things over and over (especially blogs i have noticed) go higher and higher. I mean imo karma represents to a point the content you post. I feel like mine is high because i have 80 or so videos. i dont know. it can be good and bad you just have to know the context of it. if you see someone with 100,000 karma and 5 posts and maybe an orange name you know why. IMO those people aren't good memmbers but its just the way the system works, not much we can do. if you dont want to see the numbers go so high just dont look. its the way it is, its just another system for people to see content variability and how good that content is. idk that is my rant about it?
 
It is heavily weighted on a multitude of factors, such as it won't increase from someone that gives you a 10/10 if they have 20 posts. And say you have 100,000 karma, a 10/10 will increase you say 60, while someone at 1,000 gets a 10/10 will only raise like 14.
Along with this, I hate how some people just rate people high due to having an orange name for being in the industry. I myself am grateful that this hasn't happened to me. I have under 2k with under 400 posts, showing that not many people have upped me for my photography posts etc.
 
I think a thumbs up or down would be better than out of 10. I understand the weighing of different things. The whole idea of karma is just useless to me.
 
in my opinion karma is somewhat helpful but should be tweaked. i think the thumbs up or down would be a great idea or maybe out of 4. i just feel out of ten is unecessary
 
karma is just a useless system that attracts small-minded kids who feel that if they have a lot of points, it makes them better than people that have less than them. its really fucking gay.

here its like this but really, no worth at all making it a tad more ridiculous and stupid...

Yeah, I hardly ever do a 6/10 or like a 3/10, just 0 or 10. But still a great system. Lol'd at the Shrute bucks
 
My favorite part about this is that the reason we implemented the Karma system was that the community (you) begged for it for YEARS. Begged and begged and begged and begged... so a couple of years back we listened and implemented it.

The Karma system is an extremely complex algorithm that measures how "good" of a member you are. It measures absolutely everything you do on newschoolers, factors in ratings you receive, how popular things you do are, ratings you receive... and a million other things.

Maybe we should look to link it to more stuff...

 
i dont think its the system thats broken. i think its an issue of people not knowing how to use it. last few days i have been getting rated down overnight even though i didnt hate and gave positive responses to threads. in theory that shouldnt be happening...
 
will somebody save my karma? my rating keeps going up but my karma keeps dropping!!! it reset at 58000 every time i got to 59000 and now it's started resetting at 57000

I NEED MY KARMAZ BACK
 
There's how many people on this site and you think you've heard every one of our opinions on the matter? This is the first time I've said something and it was only constructive.
 
Naw dude, just reiterating what Bishop says. Its a site with over 10,000 active members, the admins do what they can to appease the majority. If enough people voice they are done with it, it might go away, more power to you guys.
 
then again, that could kinda be a cool idea. obviously 20,000 karma wouldnt get you $20,000. but maybe a portion of it?? or it wouldnt be cash redeemable, instead you could purcahse stuff at the store with it. because if you have that much karma you have obviously made a decent contribution to the site (except for people who get given karma just because they have an orange name). but to counteract that, maybe your post count could come into play??... just an idea

i love these replies. as if the same people who asked for karma (youre gay if you asked for a karma system btw) are the same people complaining about it... great logic
 
lets use even 5% of our brain power here

if karma were redeemable for money, or something that can actually be used, what would that result in?

hmm, most likely:

an increase in trolling

way too many videos/pictures/blogs non-related to skiing or even close

pissed off NSers

a waste of bandwith

what it would bring:

an increase to creativity (or most likely the opposite) to the wales forum

so i propose to you, is it worth it? and is it possible?
 
no, it is not possible. and i have already acknowledged i had brain retardation when i wrote it, so please dont remind me how useless my post was
