Kalum Ko Demo Reel 2012 | Kolabo

Holy shit man that was beautiful! Great job sticking to the roots of what a demo reel really is, I especially noticed it on the action sports scenes. Get the shot, not the trick, great work overall. Amazing footage, great cuts, nearly PERFECT length, I literally clicked to take the video out of full screen the second it was finishing up. Not bored for a second.

wow dude that was horrible. shots cut to quickly i couldnt tell what was happening. everything was blurry. and colours sucked. you should quit filming.

ok kidding that was freaking awesome.

This!

That was awesome to watch from start to finish and enjoyed every second of it. An awesome variety of shots! Very well done!

probably one of the best paced and best variety reels I have seen. really really well done. loved your composure on so many of those shots. there wasn't one shot that took away from another.

one thing I did find myself wishing, which may be a good thing depending on the viewer, is that a couple of those quick cuts...were too quick. It left me with this feeling of, what was that? Mainly, I think this is a feeling that you are hoping for, to entice the viewer to pay even closer attention, to get more involved. However, there were a couple, that just seemed to confuse me. One in particular was a shot of what I think was a mans face. I think this is why it left me with this weird feeling. Since it was a mans face, I wanted time to see his expression, him emotion, to show me why deserved to be with all of these other beautiful shots. Hope this makes sense. I'm out in the middle of Utah on a shoot right now, with terrible internet and am about to go to bed, otherwise I would give you an exact time in the reel. I'm sure you know the shot Im referring to tho.

Otherwise, as I mentioned before and some other people have, the variety is great. It's also cut together so well that I didn't mind the mix of footage, jumping from season to season, content to content.

definitely something to be proud of!

So sick! Only thing I noticed were that I didn't like maybe 2 of the shots, that one football shoot and the shot at 1,22 because I feel that they would have been better with a tripod or some sort of stabilisation. Also I got this tiny white line under the image witch was kind of annoying in some of the darker shots. But really well done and you had allot of really impressive shots in there!

I noticed this line as well, not sure what it is, possibly the crop is off by a pixel line or something, i remember having an issue like that and changing the crop from 100 to 101 fixed it.

So sick bro! The pace made me want to see more and more you have shot soooo many things..I noticed a couple shaky shots but besides that it was on point

Thanks man! I definitely know what you mean. I actually began the reel with a different song, with a lot slower cuts. About half way through editing it I realized I should aim for a more upbeat pace, to attempt to keep people more into it.

I know the shot your talking about. I can for sure seeing how it'd be confusing now that I think about it. I think for me it was different cause I've seen that shot so many times, so I know exactly what he does next, leaving me feel less curious about it.

I tried to make, longer cuts when the beat went 'b-bbb-b' but IMO it through the whole vibe off. I think I could have changed the shot of the man ( my grandpa ) to a less interesting shot in the reel ( just switch spots ). Something I will for sure think more about next time I'm making an edit.

Thanks for the critique man, really appreciate it.

Thanks dude!

The football shot I don't like a ton either, I just wanted it in there to show variety of filming..

The one at 1:22 for sure would have been sicker with a tripod or stabilization. It was actually on a trip in Sardina (Italy), all I brought on the trip was my GH2 and 20mm 1.7, that was using the crop mode and just handheld looking through the EVF, hence the shakiness. Wish I had FCP for smooth cam, but I'm still using FCE at the moment.

Didn't even notice the line haha, thanks for pointing it out, must have been something wrong with the crop.

killed it man, definitely one of my favorite NSer produced reels.

Editing was very on point with the beat which I loved. Although i do agree with others, only thing i wished for would be the song to be slower to be able to observe the whole scene during the fast cuts. But still, not a big deal considering you had some very well composed stuff, and the editing was again perfect for the song/vibe you were going for.

I almost want you to make two reels, one of just skiing, and one of all your different work with a bit less skiing, but use the same song in both (again, because it was killer editing/feel). If I had to get SUPER picky, the last segment of it had a bit too much skiing for my taste, even though i'm a) a skier b) loved the shots and c) understand 100% that you'd have a little skiing subsection as you do quite a bit of it. It might be because you had it mixed throughout and then dedicated its own little part and it just stands out more than a narrative or other work does to me, not sure.

Anyways, keep it up. Would love to see the videos that some of this stuff came from!

Thanks Jamie!

I was thinking about making 2 reels as well, but this just kinda came together and I think I'm just gonna leave it for now.

That was so good dude, like people have been saying 1 or 2 shots weren't really on par but looking good for sure

Hey I don't know if you know this, but your demo was on the front page of infinitylist.com, an extreme sports video website I always go on, that's awesome, keep it up!
