K2 Silencers in POW

how do they handle?

the missdemeanors is a womens powder/park ski and it has the exact same dimensions as the silencer which they say is mostly just a park ski.

thanks.

The silencers are capped and the missy's are not, so they are a bit different due to their construction. Also, the missy's have a different flex pattern then the silencers.

I have the silencers and I don't ever use them for pow. I don't think that the flex is set up for that type of riding.

Personally I don't prefer them in pow cause I think they're a little on the stiff side, probably not as stiff as PE's but still fairly stiff. For a girl, I think you should float just fine, but it's always nice if they had a fatter waist to help with landing and floatation, the only reason that I'd probably look at them would be their price, other than that, if I wanted to really ride in deep powder, I'd look at something else

The missdimenors are ment for girls and ingeneral girls tend to be samller then guys so they don't need as afat a ski for powder, that is why they are an all mountain ski for girls while the silincers are a more gromed/park ski for guys. there is more to it though.

i was looking at the silencers because of the price.

i also don't go in deep pow just the light stuff, but i weigh about 130 so it shouldn't be that bad.

i ski vail so...i'm mostly on corduroy, but sometimes i'm in pow.

thanks guys.

i wouldnt reccomend a price point ski like that in general, but if you have to you should be fine. go look for a pair of last years seth viscious. they can be realy cheap now that they are a year old and there the exact same as the nancys.

They are not skittish outside of a park, their chasis is that of the original Public Enemy, a very versatile ski. We created the Silencer at that pricepoint because we want to offer a quality ski that is able to be purchased with limited funds. Our sport if ridiculously expensive and we want to make it more accesible. K2 was the first brand to drop prices on all of it's twins with the first Pistol's and PEs back in 2002 and now everbody has been forced to follow suit to a degree. Remember kids, magazine reviews are hardly un-biased. Read between the lines...

^I believe that -- Freeskier hates on K2 so hard core. BUT, schmies...I was wondering why, then, the AK and the Seth were bumped up $30 dollars then this year. I was suprised to see that.

I don't think those skis where designed to ski anything but perfectly groomed bunny hills. They look sick!

Materials costing more. Every year you see increases in pricing on your raw materials you use in construction, this season saw a big increase in anything petroleum based, namely base material. The more base colors we use and the more complex the die-cut design is, the longer it takes, thus costing in the end.

missy's are just a better ski you get a sandwich construction vs a capped with the silencer if your more aggressive go with the missy's , the silencer is a price point ski if you ski alot its worth the money to get the missy's

Thanks,

It's a damn shame that graphics sell skis more than half the time. If only black on black no die cuts could be a big seller, maybe skis would not cost as much.

i have heard from a reliable source that the silencers are made from the original K2 PE mold, which is pretty cheap on K2s part. they figured they had a mold sitting around and they should put it to use. my source also said i shouldn't buy the ski and i trust him so i would say dont get the ski in the first place. Get the new PE or Fujative if you want a K2 park ski.

A ski to possibly look at for Colorado is the Rossi Sprayer BC. It not Rediculously Wide nor Expensive. LAst years were at sniagrab for 300 or so

You ski Vail, so it should be mostly pow, hardly corduroy. We had an epic season last year, not the steepest mountain but pretty damn fun when it snows.

yea, i gots a job.

but another thing is...i live in florida.

blah.

but thanks for the tip, i'll havta look into dem sprayers.

thanks guys.

if your a good skier and actually know how to shred pow then you should do fine with silencers, dont really matter what ski you got if your good....

you my friend, are a fucking retard. have you ever rode the old PE's? they kick ass. the silencer is the EXACT same ski, they just use that old shape to save $ (new molds cost alot of money). the cap construction eliminates sidewalls from the process, which are fairly expensive. yes, capped skis arnt as durable, but k2 seems to defy physics, cuase the fujas are bulletproof, as are the silencers.

bottom line, is the silencer is a clone of the 1st generation PE. hate on the silencer, your hatin on the PE. they just switch the base material to a lower grade, and eliminate the sidewalls to keep cost down. you should be thankin K2 for offerin such a ski at that kinda price, not hatin.

that being said, i will be the first to say, if you can, spend the money for a better ski. sandwich construction skis do transfer more energy to the edges, and the higher grade bases do make a difference. for the diff between the silencer and missy, the missy uses a different core that is lighter and softer, which would be better for your skiing. as stated, the sprayer BC is a good bet, as is last years foil or gun, ARV, or anything else light, wide, and soft flexing.

so if the old pe is such a "kick ass" ski - why did they change it? hmm..... you should check yoself fool, no reason to go off on jarrod for no reason. fuck, the kid is in the hospital recovering from knee surgery - have you no decency?

the silencer is a cheap ski. its still a great value for the money, but its still a cheaper ski.

alright, calling me a "fucking retard" is completely unecessary. it only makes you look like a complete tool. i am not gonna argue with you. as i trust Josh Bryant, the owner of Jibij who gave me this information more than i trust you. Ski technology changes quickly (on a yearly basis) and there is no reason to be using a 4 year old mold on a brand new ski.

please tell me how ski technology has revolutionaryly changed in the past few years? i build them btw. you have wood, fiberglass, base, edges, and some plastic in the form of topsheets/sidewalls. yes, epoxies can be changed around, fiberglass weights moddified. but nothing major.

and yes, K2 should use new molds for new skis. guess what? they do. its called the current generation PE. and like i said, the goal of the silencer was to create a good all mountain twin that was affordable. creating new molds cost thousands, and adds to the final cost of the ski. doing so would not make the goal achevable, or would require the use of lower end materials in the ski to meet the pricepoint. sure, a shop owner may tell you something like that. i know josh is a cool guy, but god forbid he talks you into the PE over the silencer, he just made some more money!

i dont like getting into these agruments because they never end and there is no right answer. and i dont even know where u r getting all this information. it seems like half the kids on this site just make theirs up as they go along. anyway i have said what i wanted to say. i wont be buying silencers anytime soon and that is that.

This is the first year i am going to ski on anything wider than a 75 underfoot and I have been skiing pow, deep pow, for years. Just learn to ski better.

that's what i'm sayin.

i was skiing pow with 75's.

this "you better get the 90s for any type of pow" is bullshit.

i couldn't see why the silencers can't handle pow even though the missdemeanors can and they have the EXACT same dimensions (i know they are built with different materials, but a ski is a ski).

Base material on the Silencer is still the thicker quality material we use on all of our twins. The reason the ski is less expensive is because of its cap construction and use of an existing mold. I'm going to mount up a pair to take to Whistler's opener tomorrow morning just so I can ski powder on them and laugh when they ski just fine. And then while half of you are arguing on here about skis most have never even tried out, I'm going to ski some powder on my Fujatives. Have a great weekend.
