K2 Sight?

Hi,

I've been thinking about getting the K2 Sight, but I have a few questions about them being ok for me first. I'm 15, 5ft5 and 50kg. I ski in an extremely laid back way and I'll hopefully be skiing in the park for the first time, but I'll defiantly be skiing some powder and piste.

So my questions are; how well would the ski float for me in powder? and what length shall I go for (considering I'm still growing)? I was deciding between the 159 and the 169.

or the 2014 in 169.

Whats the Sight like? If its not great what other skis would suit me for a low price?

Thanks Callum

They won't be that great in powder at all, they'll handle a few inches of fresh snow but in deeper powder they will be less than ideal. This is because they're only 85mm underfoot which is fairly narrow so you don't get much floatation from the ski, you will sink instead of glide over the snow. Powder skis are usually at least a minimum of 95 - 100mm+ underfoot and the Sights have a narrow tip and tail as well.

However on piste and in park they will rip. They're a stiff ski (the stiffest K2 park ski I'm pretty sure) and will be very stable on any size features as well as going at high speeds making carved turns. They also have tip and tail rocker which will give them more versatility in varied condition and make them feel more playful. Camber underfoot will make them hold and edge really well too.

At your height I would say go for 169cm if you're a competent skier and can ski just about any run at the mountain without issues. If however you're a new skier and still learning to carve and control skis then 159cm would be a better choice.

Oh and also I forgot to add in my last post, if you want a park ski that will still be able to handle powder have a look at:

Armada Al Dente, Nordica Soul Rider, Line Blend and ON3P Kartel 98.

All of these skis are at least 95mm underfoot but less than a 100mm and have rocker. This means they will float much better in powder than the Sights while not being too heavy to throw around on rails and jumps. Personally I think skis that are over 100mm get a bit heavy and sluggish for park.

Thanks allot, the only issue I have with a ski like the ones you recommended is the edge to edge time. I'm not the greatest of skiers so in icy conditions how would I fair with a wider ski?

Take a look at the K2 Shreditor 92.

Wide enough to handle a little pow but also narrow enough to handle ice with decent edge to edge transition.

I just had a look, they look great. Only problem is now I have to find them in my size and for a low price... So the Sights wouldn't really work in allot of powder even for someone of my size?

Oh and I know this is probably a hated question. But where about's should I get them mounted if I do get the Sights. Like 1 cm behind centre?

I don't know why this got downvoted...?

Ive been on the sights for 3 season so far. Solid ski for groomers and all mt. Good for park too, but a little on the stiff side. Im 5'8" and ride the 169s so id say go with that size. As for pow, I wouldnt recommend taking them into anything over 4-6 inches of fresh.

Thanks all. ECSkier, where do you have your bindings mounted?

I have them mounted 1 back from center and generally like my park skis mounted there. Its all personal preference so I'd recommend anywhere from true center to 2 cm back.
