RIP Shane

I'm not quite sure what to think of this...my first thought was like, "sweet, K2 really cares about their riders."

But my next thought was, "how much money are they going to make off these? Are proceeds going anywhere...is this a ploy for K2 to make money?"

My bad, commented before I read the article...this is a good thing then...wish they'd make more so I could hang a pair on the wall, or put them in the local ski bar...

Had you read the article you would have seen:

To celebrate Shane’s life, K2 Skis will release a limited edition Shane McConkey Ski built on the Pontoon chassis, in winter 2009. Graphically inspired by Shane’s personality, ability and many contributions to our sport, the ski will be available at participating authorized K2 Dealers and K2Skis.com beginning in October. Approximately 500 Pair of the unique, individually numbered, commemorative skis will be produced. All net proceeds generated by the sales of the Shane McConkey Tribute ski, suggested retail $600, will be donated to Shane’s family.

to go more into detail of what Malone said, "All net proceeds generated by the sales of the Shane McConkey Tribute

ski, suggested retail $600, will be donated to Shane’s family."

No, I was just thinking that K2 was wack, until I read the article (which I didnt see at first)...I think it's awesome that the proceeds are going to the family, that was my immediate first thought was thats where the money should be going...

didn't read through this thread but-

yes, some money will go to his family, just like Coombas and Coombs family. They are Pontoons with better graphic, and might be called the McToon or something. It was talked about on TGR right after his death and K2 said they would make it. I bet they will not be making the old Pontoon graphic anymore.

Pontoons have sidecut. If you can, go look at one from the tip down the base, and there is some that goes a bit behind the binding position. Not a ton but enough to help on groomers.

And I just read the link, I guess limited edition..I wonder why. If they are making Pontoons, just make these instead. It could be that they already had a ton of Pontoons with graphics on them already made, though.

I just got a warm feeling in my tummy. This is why k2 is the raddest ski company out there. That and their product is bomb proof.

god these are awesome, i wasnt planing on buying new skis this year but this just changed im gonna try to get my hands on a pair of these, its just an added bounus that k2 is donateing the procceds

i live in new jersey and just put in a call to my rep to get a pair.

theres just some things worth the price of admission, and this is a model thats truly deserved. im putting those suckers on my wall and keeping em as a monument to one of the biggest pioneers in the sport and one of the best skiers ever

i also really like the "attention, in the likely event of a powder landing your ski cushion should be used as a floatation device"its a pontoon legacy, i really like how they let that feature remain on shane's legacy

Thanks for the positive feedback everybody. This was a collaborative effort with all the photogs donating their respective images and the ski cartoonist Gary Patterson donating his drawings. That brought it all together and gave us a ton of material to work with to create a ski that presented a visual narrative of his life and ski career.
If you aren't able to get your hands on a pair this fall, you can always donate to Shane's wife and daughter Sherry and Ayla athttp://shanemcconkey.org/

anyone have a more info on these yet? wondering if they have a certain day for release and which stores were going to get them?
