Just starting a little fire over here...Adam Corolla on Occupy

So, I have deliberately kept out of the Occupy nonsense, but I do think that Adam Corolla nailed one aspect of Occupy and I wanted to share it with you guys.

I love adam Corolla, he always hits the nail on the head. You should check out in 50 years we will all be chicks, or at least some of his youtube videos.

Once again I completely agree with him

ok seriously? comparing the occupy movement to limit corporate influence on politics to terrorism? theres a lot of people in the occupy movement so you'll always be able to find the one ass douche to hate on, but this guy does not know what the fuck he is talking about.

the point was that he was complaining about how entitled people feel, and that envy of the successful is a new and unhealthy mindset. people who are poor should work harder to better themselves, and stop demanding higher taxes from those who already pay significantly more. however, his vast generalizations and equating occupy to terrorism makes him sound like an idiot.

he used 1 fact in that whole interview that he admitted to being unclear about.

he was equating the reasoning behind them. if a kid is jealous of someone elses new toy and destroys it is the same principle of terrorists' jealousy of us as a rich, successful society. hes not saying that theyre the same thing at all, hes just using the principles of envy to show how devistating it can be. thats what i got out of it at least.

hes adam carolla dude. hes a comedian, if you expect to hear facts from him you are barking up the wrong tree. this however doesnt mean his point is invalid. he spoke off the cuff about a topic he by no means a specialist on this subject.

get off the terrorism bit, not the point. hard facts arent the point either. his evaluation of the current state of American culture was spot on.

you dont have a legitimate argument against his points so you revert to attacking his credibility. sad

it's really easy to say 'get a job, hippie' when you have a job.

if he's not going to show compassion for some kids exercising their first-amendment right, he should at least be thankful for how fortunate he is.

I don't know too much about him, but I do know he has a pretty interesting life story, not all of it privileged.

I want to say also that the older I get and the more I see of the world, the more I start to agree with "get a job hippie." If you only knew the abuse of the system that I see every day in one small sector of our world. The system of support breeds abuse, plain and simple. Unfortunately its human nature (which I don't think anyone can fix), and there are abuses on the other side from the wealthy and privileged as well. So I don't have an answer. I can say for a fact though it gets frustrating day in and day out seeing our FUCKED healthcare system, and let me be the first to mention, its not all from the big bad insurance companies either.

hmmmmk lets just look at the income disparity, the shrinking of the middle class, the unemployment rate, and the millions without healthcare in this country. now you can have all kinds of different opinions about how to fix those problems, but people don't just suddenly get lazy and decide not to have nice jobs anymore. people are angry for good reasons, and equating the entire movement to lazy ass-douches (which admittedly there are a few) and then to terrorism shows how removed he is from the rest of society.

i was about to apologize for making you sad, but then i changed my mind.

Well said.

Though, I disagree where you said "fix these problems". That implies that the system as it stands is workable with reform, which it is not. The industrial technological system as it stands cannot survive. The only way to solve these problems of income disparity and inequality is a breakdown of coercion-based-hierarchy, the state, and the capitalist system, all of which are on their way down. Any attempts to reform things only prolong the pain generated by the pyramid.

again with the terrorism.

carolla provides no facts (even though he indeed does, tax disparity) and he is an idiot. you provide no facts as well, what does that make you?

suddenly become lazy? im pretty sure carolla refers to this being a problem spanning generations.

every time you post you only make yourself look bad

That's what I'm hinting at. If he got some real facts together and opened a dictionary, he could actually have an impact on some people.

For now, he's a comedian with an opinion. Everyone has an opinion. What makes his better than mine? Nothing.

If he had supporting evidence, boom, he wins.

no it isnt. the main point of this thread is what carolla addressed in his video. a culture of entitlement

where on earth did he mention the stuff you mentioned? unless we watched different videos.

you guys are bad at this

Okay, hippy, maybe this will help you understand. Replace the word "beer" with "weed" and "drink" with "smoke" if necessary for your comprehension.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100…

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this…

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7..

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do..

The ten men drank in the bar

every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day,

the owner threw them a curve ball. “Since you are all such good

customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by

$20″. Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay

their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were

unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other

six men? The paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so

that everyone would get his fair share?

They realized that $20 divided

by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share,

then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to

drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested

that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by a higher percentage

the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had

been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that

each should now pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving).

The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving).

Each of the six was better off

than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once

outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.

“I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,”but he got $10!”

“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed

the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar too. It’s unfair that he got ten

times more benefit than me!”

“That’s true!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!”

“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison, “we didn’t get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!”

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man

didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had their beers

without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered

something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them

for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls,

journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works. The

people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most

benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being

wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might

start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

so many assumption dude. carolla mentions OWS only a few times, the problem isnt the occupiers per se but rather the culure they were raised in.

yes, there is corruption in the system( yet again you dont provide validity to your statement). the sky is also blue. irrelevant points dont prove anything

im politically active, i vote. i voted for bob barr last election. who'd you vote for?

1) Don't make assumptions about other people's intelligence based on internet posts. It makes YOU look young or unintelligent.

2) It is obvious you don't capitalize on the outstanding opportunities in the marketplace, like some do. I'm not saying business isn't dirty (because it is disgusting) but this is capitalism. Don't like it, move to Russia or Cuba. See what communism does to the economic system of a country. Cuba does have a good healthcare system but we should try to stay on topic. Which you aren't. This was about an opinion based video, you went too deep, too personal. Lighten up, it's the internet.

3) Stop saying we, as if I live in the US. I don't. Go north until you reach a border. I'd love to have this conversation in person. Be cautious for wild beavers, though. Violent little fuckers they are.

Anyways, the tax example I posted has more relevance if you take it beyond face value. The people who are most successful in the system provide to everyone else (whether directly through jobs, or indirectly through taxes). The system relies on that, they can't leave now. It's already gone too far. We are their bitches now. Government will always be corrupt. I live in Quebec, I know all about that. The government is there to push money through the system, which they do quite well.

PS, stop paying those soldiers and see if they can find a job. I dare you. Boom, depression. Wars keep the economy afloat.

Unfortunately, good people like you would make shitty presidents. You have to look beyond being good and at the bigger picture.

Anyways, I have to get back to enjoying my government subsidized education.

Well fuck... "I don't want to be rich" that's the problem with Americans they strive for medeocracy. I bet if you were one of the curds who sadam systematiicly slaughtered you would have a different opion of the war. You have no idea how lucky you are in the USA you have liberty and freedom. If you were Iraqis , first you would be dead for speakin
