Just saw the hobbit!!!

i was just pissed that the movie didnt go anywhere and now we're stuck sitting through 2 more movies.

i thought this was just suppose to be the last movie. and when it ended i was like, "are you fucking kidding me? that went no where."

 
Fun fact:The Balrogs (Fiery Demon that Gandalf killed in the first movie (Durin's Bane was his name) are the same race (Maiar) as Gandalf, Sauron, and Sarumon)

But the Necromancer is only mentioned in brief in the Hobbit and it is another name for Sauron and in the Hobbit, Sauron's form was staying in Dul Guldur.

Also, in the Hobbit (The movie) Gandalf doesn't goes into Dol Guldur which is not in the book. It is another wizard called Radagast the Brown who goes into Dol Guldur and finds evidence of the Necromancer and reports his findings to the White Council. Plans by the white council to wage war on Dol Guldur are overruled by Saurumon who was head of the council.

I loved it, my only disappointments were that the Orcs were all CGI, whereas in the LOTR movies, they actually dressed people up in crazy ass costumes to play the important Orcs.
 
really?? its how the 9 riders (spirits of the witch kings) were raised. Sauron's spirit is the necromancer
 
For those of you who read the book right before seeing the movie, did you think it ruined the movie because you knew what was going to happen or did it not affect you?
 
Saw it again, this time in 2d, which I thought was much better.

As for the necromancer or sauron, as long as the ring exists, Sauron can exist just not in full physical form.
 
I haven't watched the movie yet, and I am just re reading The Hobbit right now so I'm a little rusty as to what details are revealed in The Hobbit so I'm not sure what you know already, but: A lot of the history on Sauron (who he is, where he came from, and how he came to be what he is) is covered in Silmarillion and The Unfinished Tales. If you are a fan of TLOR and The Hobbit, you really should check those two books out as well. Gives you a much better understanding about why things are the way they are.
 
such a terrible fucking movie, i was actually incredibly disappointed. it was how i would imagine a disney produced LOTR movie to be.

It was a comedy, and i thought the acting was fucking dreadful. why bother making the goblins and the orcs talk and have subtitles? completely unnecessary and all that bullshit filler was just to stretch it into multiple movies. The graphics were atrocious, and all in all it was a huge let down.

i enjoyed it for the first 30 minutes while i was baked but then i just wanted it to end... awful
 
It's explained that the nazgul(ringwraiths) are the nine and are neither living nor dead. Implied that they were raised by Sauron to search for the one ring.
 
The Nazgul are the 9 kings of men that kept their rings that were given to them by Sauron. They were turned into the Nazgul by the One Ring's power and became servants unto Sauron since they didn't take their rings off like the 3 Elven Lords when they realized Sauron's treachery.
 
The first 15 minutes were beautiful, I really liked both the 3D and the High Frame Rate actually. But then the movie broke or something, and they tried to mend it for like half an hour, and then we were told to walk out to registers and collect two free tickets.

So, first 15 minutes were nice, but then I got kind of disappointed.
 
I'm going to go see it today. I waited a while to beat the crowds. Hopefully Peter Jackson pulls it off again. Lots of mixed reviews though.
 
You sir need to understand one thing. THIS IS NOT THE LORD OF THE RINGS! If you have read the hobbit you know that it is much more light hearted than the LOTR. In factt, I'm pretty sure the hobbit was intended to be more of a children's read when compared to reading LOTR. I will say that this movie was a little stretched, but overall it was enjoyable.

They essentially used the fame that they had with LOTR and used it to make this popular. So much recycled music, and even the events were the same. They blatantly copied some scenes from LOTR to appeal to the fans of the other movies. So while it sucked and was nothing like LOTR in terms of quality, it is a copy of it at the same time. They are going to lose a lot of fans with this movie.
 
i thought the movie was fine, but i wish they had toned down the CGI on the main characters a bit. bilbos feet looked like clown shoes and his toes never moved, which looked way worse than the LOTR hobbits, and most of the dwarves had some kind of computer modification which just doesnt look as good as old fashion make-up art.
 
I wished they had toned down the cgi. Part of the lotr movies that made them feel so real is that they had real actors for pretty much every character. Also the hobbit and lotr are different series but they are in the same universe, I wished that they did not change the design of the wargs and goblins in the hobbit movies, I felt like weta hit the nail on the head for the design of these creatures in the lotr series.
 
Not too impressed to be honest. All my complaints have pretty much been mentioned: too much cgi, too much comedy, nothing really happened, the subtitles with the orcs were stupid, etc.. I agree that the book was humorous, but the humor came at the wrong parts of the movie. The riddle scene was ruined by blatant humor. The cgi was overdone and I agree with the guy that said he missed when they would have real actors play some of the orcs. The orcs and goblins looked like shit out of borderlands 2 at times and did not mix with the real actors.
 
This. I don't feel bad for anyone who claims "spoiler" about the original plot of the book. Yeah don't say anything about the movie maybe, but I mean come on, hearing the necromancer is sauron, no shit read the book. Its great. Plus if you didn't want to read spoilers, why the fuck did you click on this thread?

On a different note, i do wish it was more like LOTR, it would have been great to get the same gritty dark style. In the sense that it was more... childish I guess. However, I think it reflects on how the book was, as The Hobbit had jokes and more songs and was more playful than the LOTR. I liked it overall and realized I need to read the book again. Should be interesting to see how PJ can drag this out into 3 movies though...
 
I thought it was fucking awesome. That scene where Thorin runs towards the white Orc was so fucking epic it almost made me implode.
 
That was one of the most annoying scenes in the movie. They tried to make it incredibly epic, but it then just turned chessy. Also, they used the wrong music there. I don't know what the white orc and Thorin have to do with the nazgul, but the song they used was the nazgul theme if I am not mistaken.
 
I don't understand what the complaints are about the light comedy in the film. The Hobbit was written as a children's book it was always supposed more lighthearted than The Lord of the Rings. Honestly prior to seeing the Hobbit as I was skeptical about the fact they were planning to get 9 hours out of 300 or so pages of novel. But actually at no points was I thinking how much longer, and when the film ended I thought, wow was that 3 hours. I'm looking forward to the next film and I hope it will deliver (well for me at least) as much as the first.
 
wasnt bad. they made the dwarf king look badass as fuck. too many of the scenes dragged on and really tried to force the humor, though. not a fan of that. it's like "ok, we get it. haw haw. move along."

really didn't like the big goblin scene in the mountain, either. too much was happening and it was making me nauseous. that could have been a little less crazy, more like the scene in the fellowship of the ring where they were attacked in the mines, with one big battle against the troll at the end of it. doesn't have to be like thousands of dudes charging them getting knocked off cliffs and flung around every which way for 20 minutes straight...

over all, worth the watch, leaves me wanting to see how the next ones go.

 
I agree.

Are goblins complete pussies compared to orcs? I don't get how they can be afraid of small groups of orcs, but kick the shit out of hundreds of goblins during their escape.

i thought the exact same thing. i had no idea there were going to be more, so after a couple hours i was thinking "jeez they need to start wrapping this up. we've got a long way to go in the next hour or so..."

fucking great movie. this is the ultimate story. I knew they were making it in 3 parts though, but I had no idea where they were goign to cut it.

There were more than a few parts that I don't remember from the book, but thats why i'm rereading the book. It's so funny how i hate harry potter, or anything to do with witches etc. but the hobbit and LOTR does it right, its the real deal and theres nothing better.
 
I went in with zero expectations. Not at all comparing or contrasting with LOTR.

As a standalone film, it was terrible.
 
i enjoyed the movie a lot. i think I'm an easy critic though. Always seems like eneryone else whines about how predictable movies are. Sometimes it seems like theyre just trying to brag though
 
obviously this movie is predictable. it was a god damn book that half of everyone in any given 1st world nation from 1950 till now has read.

It wasn't a bad movie, just wish the feel had been different. To much humor back to dark back to humor. Should have been humorous in the beginning with a growing sense of dark/evil as the movie went on. Being a Lotr nerd i was really annoyed with the pale orc, he is never mentioned in the book, the wargs dont chase them before they get to rivendale, and its the goblins from the caves that come out on the wargs to trap them in the pine trees. I also wasnt a fan of how the elves in rivendale and the company of dwarves didn't get along at all. They are quite friendly to each other in the book.

I did like the meeting of elrond, gandalf, saruman, and galadriel. That was dope, kinda gave an insight to the higher powers in middle earth and their roles.

The mountain fight scene was fucking nuts!

I didn't like how pretty much everything besides the acting was CGI and you could tell in some parts, in my opinion the effects in LOTR were actually better cause they used more props instead of CGI.
 
it was pretty good, but a little too fake at times. also, there was a lot of unnecessary "comedy" added which kind of took away from the seriousness of the movie IMOalso, P-HAGAR is gay
