Just got meniscus surgery

they had to stitch it back together, was ripped vertically.

rip is in the red zone.

doctor told me 6 weeks no weight bearing and 3 months minimum until skis.

the injury happened 8 weeks ago, and healed to the point where i could ski and hit jumps before surgery.

Wondering if anyone else has ripped theirs and what i should expect?

I had meniscus surgery in November. I think it was the part that goes horizontally across the knee. They just took the piece of it out and said I would be good in 6 weeks. Still hurts when I use it though and still hurts to bend my knee back. Hoping I didn't tear it again.

I got surgery on mine last January (they just removed my ripped piece) but I was skiing very casually by the end of February and could hit rails by march. Couldn't hit jumps for the rest of the season though. This season it hasn't bothered me one bit (knock on wood).

@cum.snorkeler you're probably fine. Just don't do things that make it hurt and it should heal up fully within a few months. These things take time, and you don't wanna fuck up your recovery.

3 months?! I just got my acl done on friday and the doc said no athletics(especially skiing) for at least 6 months. I should be able to walk normally in 2 and a half weeks though.

Vibes man! Hope the recovery goes great!

I had mind done on December 2nd. By far the easiest of my knee surgeries (it was number 3, lucky me, right?) Hitting the hill on March 3rd and I can't wait. Get in the gym as soon as that 6 weeks is up and work your ass off man, it'll be all good. Good luck.

Hey man, I got the same surgery as you 4 years ago. its quite a painful and frustrating healing process... So they decided to stich it up together because removing the part that was blocking movement would have been too big. The good news is you won't have as much osteoarthritis since its supposed to have been repaired. Do your rehab reaaaaallly the best you can. If they tell you you don't need some because you have been bearing weight for long enough, find somebody who will understand you need to do some.

Bad news though, theres a 35% chance of not healing well and tearing up appart again. Of course this happened to me. Good news is they rarely repair it twice, they usually only do a "meniscus-o-tomy"... And it takes maximum one month to be 100% ... i guess ill be walking with a cane at 35...

Hold on tight.

same exact story. I don't have either of my meniscus' any more due to both of them ripping back apart after my first surgery. Repairs blow, they are painful, heal like shit, and take forever to get back to full strength. When they take it out though, you are good after like 2-3 days. I was literally playing backyard football 3 days after I got it taken out (probably wasn't the best idea but whatever).

you would (probably) know it the second time you do it. It has a very distinct ripping feel the second time. The first time I re-ripped it I turned around, sat down, and told my coach I blew it out. I knew it immediately, even though noone believed me

I did the same thing and had it repaired this last june. It still hurts and it hurts equally as bad when it was torn so im not sure if the surgery was reall worth it or not. Just got to live with it I guess.

My doctor is extremely pleased with it. Im in some pain still obviously, haha. I got a hamstring graft and Im headed to my 4th PT appoinment in a couple hours.

acl tears generally require more healing than meniscus. if you get surgery on your meniscus, this is often also less complicated and will heal a lot faster.

listen to your doctor, don't want to tear it again i'm sure!

I tore my meniscus back in September in a soccer game and have been skiing on it since. Once it healed it really was only painful to the touch. My knee swells up like a grapefruit when i ski but i was told it was not due to my meniscus but something with my knee cap. The meniscus is so small that it usually isn't all that crucial but its better to fix it now better than later.. thats what i plan to do

I had ACL repair and lateral/medial meniscal repair last December. I was in a locked brace for 4 weeks to prevent further damage to the meniscus while it healed. I was cleared to walk at 6 weeks after surgery, and currently (7 weeks post op) I'm at 125 degrees flexion. Keeping that shit locked straight for so long caused some pretty good atrophy and loss of ROM, but i've been walking without a brace for over a week now and my strength is coming back quickly. Do your PT like a boss and you'll be back before you know it, unfortunately I'm still quite a ways away because of my ACL, but the meniscus is feeling pretty solid at this point, minus a few crackles here and there when bending the joint. Don't get anxious about weight bearing too early, give it time to heal up before you put that stress on it.

so no weight bearing but keep it moving hey?

she said take it to 90 degs no farther.

yesterday i couldnt move it today i can a little
