Just bought new computer parts from newegg

it requires another 300 dollars, everything he has already supports crossfire. the advantage is speed, the disadvantage is higher temperatures.

Bumping this thread because I just built my computer.

Went with AMD 6 core, and middle of the road components on everything else as well as a SSD. 8GB RAM and 600 watt power supply. Not really comparable to the beast the OP built but only cost $700 all in.

finally built a computer too! I think it beats the OP's :)

Intel i7 960 3.2gHz Quad Core (running at 3.33gHz)

8gb 1333 DDR3 RAM

HD Radeon 5770 GPU

1 TB HDD for OSX

320 GB HDD for Windows 7

320 GB HDD for backup/footage

Corsair 750w PSU

ya he has a really nice motherboard, not saying you don't just another thing to compare. Why not go solid state for operating system?

I got a gigabyte x58a-ud3r just because its very hack-friendly. And I didn't go SSD because they are too expensive right now and wear out fast

ya my plan is to put the OS on a SSD and then also on a old hardrive I have and then boot from the SSD, if anything happens I can just switch over and boot from the regular hard drive. At least that is the plan haha.

Haha not bad at all - here's the computer I'm looking to build in about a month or so time, as soon as I have the cash:

Mobo: MSI P67A-GD53

Ram: 8gb 1666mhz Corsair XMS3

GPU: MSI GTX560-TI pre-OCed

PSU: Corsair 750HX

CPU: Intel i5-2500k (runs stock at 3.3ghz, probably OCing to 4ghz+)

SSD: Crucial M4 128gb for OS

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB for everything else

CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Frio

Gonna be a beast of a build... And once everyting's all said and done it's gonna be close to $2500.

Uhhh, wut? I have definitely heard they last longer since there are no moving parts and have heard that from multiple sources. I got a 64gb one for $110 so it is perfect for all of the programs you want to load fast as well as the OS all of my files I keep elsewhere.

I did the same but I have heard that they are less reliable than a good mechanical hard drive. Who knows really.

i just built mine:

i5 2500k

evga gtx 570

cm 690 II advanced windowed edition

noctua UB9 SE

msi p67a gd 65

samsung spinpoint

4g g.skill ripjaw

antec earthwatts 650W

for just 850 Euros!

msi boards are sketch, be careful. i have a spinpoint and think its great though

in months upon months of research from maximumpc and elsewhere everywhere i read said an ssd is more reliable. and based on my personal experience that is true. i have had 4 ipods fail due to hd issues, while i still have a flash usb drive from about 5-6 years ago. just due to the fact that there are no moving parts there is a lot less to fail. i mean think about a 7500rpm drive running for an entire year, thats a shit ton of movement and stuff will just wear out regardless of how well it is made or whatever. i don't know thats just what i read, but either way even if it wasn't as reliable i will take much faster speeds with slightly less reliability anyway, even though i think it is more reliable.

but with the new windows system it limits that, i forget what it is called it is something like trash collection or whatever. so if it is just the os that is on there and not all of your stuff you should be fine. i would be willing to bet it will be time for a new computer by the time my ssd fails if it ever does
