Just bought a rifle

british enfield #4 mk 2 to be exact. I don't know much about guns but I bought it off a guy I work with who bought it at a show. It has a newish scope, 2 ammo clips and all the manuals/documentation. The breach functions nice and clean. I am giving it to my dad for christmas but figure I will be shooting it quite a bit.

Have yet to fire it but heard it has a massive recoil and is loud as fuck

can you post some pics? I'm looking into getting myself a rifle, so I'm interested in seeing what other people have. Sounds like a nice rifle though, congrats my friend.

yeah, WWII i think. Seems like a great gun, the video is good. Shoots really well. I'm starting to love the bolt actions, even though I want an M1 garand terribly.

thats a sick rifle for sure. never shot one but my freinds got one and he loves it. classic british service rifle. I personally want to get a lever action 30-30 some day. preferable winchester, they make a few different models if you look on winchesters website. real nice guns.

Looks like a quality gun. Older rifles are real nice. Go slay some deer with that shit and put some food ont he table hunter gatherer style

yes it did, loved it

also shot a mosin nagant, but i'm not sure about the 303, i'm assuming it kicks like a 30-06, which kicks pretty good but is still very manageable

do any of you know about laws pertaining to shooting on your own property? Like, if you wanted to set some targets up in the woods, would you be within your rights to discharge the weapon on your own property?

yeah dude, i have little to no interest in guns but i would love to shoot/own an m1 garand at some point. what a legendary rifle

depends on where you live

if you live out in a rural area you'd be fine

but no way you could get away with it if you live close to town

call your local sherrif's office

I think it's the greatest combat rifle ever invented, but I may be biased as an American who is obsessed with WWII. My grandfather and his brothers fired it in basic training and they all agreed it was an incredible weapon. His 3 brothers fought in the war, 2 in the pacific and 1 in europe. Fortunately for me, and my mom, he was too young to serve, so he entered the marines right around the korean war. His stories about weapons training are awesome, and he has a few "expert marksman" pins to prove how sick he was with the rifle. I'd love to go shooting with him, he just says I need to get a license first. He also told me he'd buy me a rifle if I ever wanted one. I'm def going to take him up on that one

haha yeah im obsessed with WWII also. my grandfather was a general and fought in the war but died a while back and would never even speak about it with my dad... pretty sad. but i want to shoot an m1 so bad, and the carbine version (m1a1? idk)

I assume the guy in the video means 'rifle'

"A gun has wheels or is strapped to the deck of a ship"

It is the same as the M1 Garand but like the Carbine version used by the Airborne it is much shorter (to fit in the tank) but has a solid stock and the 8 round clip instead of the bigger 10 round under mount clip of the Carbine.

oh so the same thing im talking about? m1 carbine? if so yeah i wanna see/shoot one of those so badly, i feel like theyre not really talked about much

yeah dude im in this vicious cycle where im reading tons of WWII books, which make me want to play COD world at war and battlefield 1943, which makes me want to read more about wwII, which makes me want to play more ww2 games etc etc

When my dad was discharged from the Navy after Vietnam his weapons were "discharged" as well meaning taken out of use. He could have brought is 1911 Colt, Model 12 Winchester pump, and BAR back with him... but he didn't.

thats so badass i wish my grandfather had brought cool shit home. aside from the grand piano he brought home and is now in my living room haha

Doesn't have the vernier sight like the old dude was talkin about but im pretty sure once this thing is sighted in I wont need it. cool video and the "CRACK" sounds really sweet. cant wait to fire it

The BAR yes I can understand not. But he ended up BUYING a Model 12 Winchester years later and now I own a Springfield Arms 1911.... DAMN YOU DAD!

oh.. hmm. i said what i said cause i figured he didnt bring them back cause he didnt need any reminders of war or whatever. so what was the reason? just didnt?

it's the sound of the empty clip being ejected from the chamber. It pings because it is being slammed up and out. There are 8 rounds to an M1 clip, so on the 8th, it ejects.

i'm pretty sure its just the empty metal clip being struck to push it out the top.

that's a pretty nice gun. Personally I'd take the scope off because well....it's an enfield, and looks pretty damn sick without it, but to each their own.

Well, he was there at the very beginning and saw his fair share but my dad for some reason has always been able to just look past nasty things.

He didn't cause he couldn't figure out how to transport them or something was always the excuse. It could be the war thing though because the ones he bought WEREN'T used in a war so.

I think the sound was the only downfall of the rifle. The germans would wait until they heard that sound, and then they'd make their moves because they knew the soldier had to reload after the sound. US soldiers would fake em out by slamming empty clips against metal, and the krauts would pop their heads up thinking the other guy was out of ammo. But nope! I'm sure that little trick caused a good number of headshots.

haha yeah ive heard about that before, great move. it is an odd thing to do, make a rifle so that it makes a distinctive noise when it's empty.. haha

id love to have a rifle, but I think I'd want a Colt 1911. Those things are so iconic. Heavy as all hell though, or so I've heard. Really powerful too, the .45s.

I haven't. Only time I did was when I did a report on the war for school and he told me some things and told me later he would tell me more once I was older.

it's a damn shame how those guys were treated when they got home, one of the biggest disgraces in our history, behind slavery of course, but all the same, fucking terrible. Take comfort in the fact that the majority of the country was behind your dad, the anti-war movement in the US during vietnam was a minority movement, most of the country was behind the effort.
