Julien Regnier

he is more than a fuckin thug by a long shot, he is one of the creators of our fucking sport and he shreds shit anywhere he wants, you little fuckers dont even realize how much of an influence he was on this sport, he is like bill fucking russel to the celtics, he made them, i dont know what other analogies i can use but he was shredding everything before all you little fuckers were a dirty thought in your daddy's head, basically, where is the outrage for this bullshit that should be coming from NS? FUCK ARMADA for this bullshit

I don't understand ski sponsorships, Brad Holmes has been sponsored by Elan forever and Armada can't keep Julien on the team. Armada still sells a ski named after him. Julien and JP seemed to set the standard for Armada. His skiing from recent years is still worthy of a sponsorship. His pillow lines and style is just as relevant today as it ever has been.

sense he is looking for a new sponsor, why not on3p?! haha that would get the word out about them for sure

i just hit up ccrewsoldier.
PopsicleStand --> CCREWSOLDIER$tanner we are all wondering about julien. we wanted to hear the whole story, or whatever you are allowed to discuss. I understand its a business and all, but we were basically wondering whats up? If julien was let go the way he claims, i think it was pretty bad form. Maybe someone on the business side was responsible, but either way, it seems like this is not the rider owned company we thought we knew.

Regardless, we all respect your opinion, so I was wondering if you had one on this case...

This (Regnier being let go) seems like the exact opposite of what Armada originally stood for. They (including Julien) made armada for riders and not making money. I have always been a huge supporter of Armada, but that is a little low.

No money for a move like that, you have to understand On3p is a small company. It's just the people making them and the people skiing them because they're great skis.

As for Tanner, I'm sure he is focussing on his recovery right now and not on this. His job is skiing, Armada has other people who deal with the business stuff.

Yeah, i agree that Tanner's main job right now is to get healthy. However, he has a stake in the company, is THE face of the company, and is certainly a pundit of the sport. Really, there would be no better person than to hear from about this than him. That being said though, he hit me back up last night and i got the answer I was expecting: no comment. While that is dissatisfying, I imagine it is as much as he can give up. I still hope eventually something comes out where this is explained a little more.
CCREWSOLDIER$ --> PopsicleStandnot allowed to discuss but just know im super bummed and i think we lost the creator of freeskiing and it really does make me bummed out.

I figured something like this might happen I mean I have great respect for Julien but I guess eventually him, JP, Anthony and Tanner will have to retire but you would think seen as they own a share in the company then they would be ambassadors or something and still get all their shit free just maybe not the crazy travel budgets their used to as there not gonna be out there with movie segments etc and the likes of Casabon Hornbeck etc will carry it on.

I'm not usually that bothered by whos on a team or whatever but Armada is different and its really hypocritical of them to handel things like this, its 50/50 with the products being good but the other half of wanting to buy their shit is because of the ethics behind their business.

Makes me think twice about buying their stuff, might as well support Rossi who seem to be having a rough time but make quality stuff.

its sad to watch propaganda and think of all these guys progressing the sport at the time....the inovaters and now theve been pushed out of the spotlight or cant really continue because of injuries

Fuck that's just a piss off. I want to hear more because that's just not rad. It doesn't seem like something that armada would do. What company drops a pioneer of the sport who helped design one of the best most innovative skis out there right now without an explanation.
If this is true (which I'm not counting on) I really want to know Armada's side. They must have a reason beyond julien getting a little older and skiing the backcountry more and filming less. This is too big a deal to not have a reason for.

yeah i cant wait to find out. i think someone should jump on the chance, Julien would bring alot publicity (in the skiing world) to a company after what happened.

what i dont get is why you guys were not shocked last year when rossignol did the same shit with all their team.

it was the exact same shit they just fired them.

Hatveit, Houle, Spriggs...

from what Houle told me (the other guys i don't know) it was even worse than julien since they told him mid october that they would not renew his contract.

shit happens. it sucks.

Luckily Jf and Julien are super talented guys and julien will hopefully find a new sponsor (Jf is now on Volk).

Come on Armada. If this is true this pissse me of on so many levels. What's the deal? Julien is still the man.

Financially speaking,

Last year Quiksilver used to own Dynastar, Lange, and Rossi, and finally in late 2008 Quiksilver dropped them. Quiksilver has a market cap of around a quarter of a million dollars currently and has about....or almost 1 billion dollars in debt.

What I am trying to say here is, is anyone surprised when Dynastar, Lange, and Rossi get dropped from Quiksilver that they let go of all their sponsored skiers? Also to add insult to injury Rossi and Dynastar had something like 300 million of product left over from the 08-09 season and this was in Feb.

I bet Tanner needs better health insurance or has to pay a retarded rate for health insurance, and he needed dough to pay for top notch medical rehab.

The only facts in this statement are that you need to know the finances, and Armada isn't publicly traded. But you can go ahead and assume a lot.

Thats ridiculous that armada would just end a contract with one of the key co-founders of the company. Im suprised Tanner and JP wouldnt have something to say about this. Guess theres no more jp v. julien ski.

To All My Partners at Armada,

I just wanted to give you all a heads up on the status with Julien Regnier as there have been some rumors circulating.

Julien's contract was up this summer and given the current economic situation, Hans and I were forced to make many tough decisions so that we can continue to be financial solid moving forward, and this was one of them.

We chose not to renew Julien's contract, and he is no longer on our team.

He was one of the founding members of the team, as were Boyd Easley and JF Cusson. It's always hard to say good bye to a founder and friend, but he still retains his shares and we wish him all the best. We unfortunately cannot keep every team member forever.

We value your feedback as reps and distributors and that was a large part of this decision, most of your surveys place Julien's relevance to the company and team lowest of all athletes on your rankings.

I hope this clears things up if any of you had questions.

On a positive note, the outerwear is being delivered to stores and the feedback is amazing. I am heading to NZ right now to shoot for the Dealer Catalog/ISPO/SIA with all of the new 2010/2011 outerwear, skis, poles, gloves, fleece, beanies and tees!

Regards,

OC

Still doesn't redeem Armada in my eyes.

"We value your feedback as reps and distributors and that was a large part of this decision, most of your surveys place Julien's relevance to the company and team lowest of all athletes on your rankings."

i dont´t like the sound of that part. Team lowest of all athletes? sounds like a lot of bs

Look at it this way - skiers get paid to sell skis. Otherwise, why are they part of a company?

Pro skiers' pay checks come out of the marketing budget. So if cutbacks are coming and you're not having as much influence on consumers as anyone else (which is your job) you might consider your job on the chopping block.

Julien is not the only person affected by this economy, nor is he the first athlete to be deemed not as relevant as he was. It's easier to be idealistic and sink your company's money than it is to make the hard decision to let someone go.

Julien may fit somewhere else, but the bottom line is that if Armada loses too much money and can't continue leading the way they have. If they were to go belly up, what was the point of starting the company in the first place?

They need to continue making profits to continue growing and expanding.

Personally, I think I'd rather have Armada around than Julien be on their team. Look at it that way.

There are surely some idealistic people, but think about the long term and big picture. Sucks for Julien, but it must have needed to be done.

That's my thought anyhow.

Also - I don't think that email was supposed to surface. Interesting to see the responses.

how much do pro skiers like jp and julien actually get payed? Like how much does it cost to keep em on the team?

wow what a news finally I hear a word from chris o'connell, good to know he is alive I was a little worrie.
I'm happy now
julien

If it's true this sucks. Armada should have done what 4frnt has done to all their old guys, made them ambassadors. not sure what they get as an ambassador, but at least they're not just ditched
