i can't put any links cause i'm on mobile but my friends on fb linked some news that jules bianchi has crashed very hard during the suzuka gp. he is unconscious and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. he drove under a crane kinda thin when it was lifting sutil's car because he crashed on the same spot earlier. the pictures i saw were shocking.

if someone finds links, could you please put them here

i hope the young driver is okay and lives on

vibes to jules!

that's the truth, the tractor shouldn't have been there since the safety car wasn't out? i think that's how it should be: safety car first, then all the rescue things? correct me if i'm wrong.

and i read that he has gone through a surgery and is now resting, he can breathe on his own. he has a major head injury, FIA confirmed that too. i think that he'll make it

There was a local yellow. Safety car was out, but he hadn't reached it yet. I'm sure he could've been going slower, but I know as much as you guys.

Well the rain was pretty bad with lots of standing water. Now the slower you drive an F1 car, the less down force produced. With all the water on track, and under double waved yellows, the chance of aquaplaning rises significantly. I believe that the race should have been either put under safety car or red flag a couple of laps before the incident, as conditions got worse and drivers started complaining. Hopefully Bianchi pulls through, looked as though he was getting a shot at driving for ferrari in the near future

one article stated that he was driving 213km/h when he crashed, still pretty fucking fast even if he slowed down

Sure, if you go slower, there's less downforce, but that doesn't mean you can hit more corners. Never will you be able to better corner going faster than slower. If conditions were getting worse, than they could have either pitted and switched to the full wets, or driven slower. If you keep losing traction, go slower. From what I saw, conditions didn't seem much worse than the beginning of the race, and the full wets are there to be used, not for the race to be canceled before you need them. I hate to say it, because the guy's been pretty critically injured, but it's a matter of driver error on top of some bad luck.

You can't come to these conclusions just yet. If you look at the telemetry Bianchi was going at the same speed as other drivers. We don't know, anything is speculation.

They shouldn't race if they can't fly the heli out of there. At Limerock in CT they do that.

The germany race had a lot of crashing in it. I hate watching them flip over, their heads are so close to ground. also car fires

Heli was able to fly, also in contrast to popular believe medical air transport isn't suitable in most trauma cases anyway, only when there is a significant amount of time to be saved it's useful.

the broadcast was so shit we didn't get any information on this because it happened during an ad break plus they had no footage? so we were left thinking it was red flagged from the first crash which didn't seem right...

but vibes to bianchi i seriously hope he's ok. last on-track death was senna? hopefully not 2014!!

Dammit nippon what are you even doing. Guess it was also unfortunate that he happened to slide right that way.

Maybe they should consider a closed cockpit... though then people would claim it's not as exciting.

Didn't get to see the race till today, you could tell how terrible the accident was without the footage just by Will Buxtons reaction and the look on everyone's face. Really scary, hoping for the best for Jules.

SON OF A BITCH. WHAT?

How does that even fucking happen?!

yeah, it doesn't make sense. it looks like it was clearing another crashed car? wasn't there a white flag out? which means no passing/going fast?

A Statement from the family of Jules Bianchi

Yokkaichi, Japan

7 October 2014, 23.00hrs local/15.00hrs BST

The following statement is provided by the family of Jules Bianchi, in conjunction with the Mie General Medical Center, and is distributed on their behalf by the Marussia F1 Team.

"This is a very difficult time for our family, but the messages of support and affection for Jules from all over the world have been a source of great comfort to us. We would like to express our sincere appreciation.

Jules remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi. He has suffered a diffuse axonal injury and is in a critical but stable condition. The medical professionals at the hospital are providing the very best treatment and care and we are grateful for everything they have done for Jules since his accident.

We are also grateful for the presence of Professor Gerard Saillant, President of the FIA Medical Commission, and Professor Alessandro Frati, Neurosurgeon of the University of Rome La Sapienza, who has travelled to Japan at the request of Scuderia Ferrari. They arrived at the hospital today and met with the medical personnel responsible for Jules' treatment, in order to be fully informed of his clinical status so that they are able to advise the family. Professors Saillant and Frati acknowledge the excellent care being provided by the Mie General Medical Center and would like to thank their Japanese colleagues.

The hospital will continue to monitor and treat Jules and further medical updates will be provided when appropriate."

I know it probably wouldnt have done much good in this case, but I have yet to understand why people refuse to place a roll cage infront and over the driver. There are many injuries and deaths that could have been avoided if the drivers head wasnt the first thing an object was to come in contact with. The NHRA has been doing it sence the early 70's and it has saved many lives.

just a novice fan but watching it live it seemed like something like this was an inevitability, one guy spun out in the first (couple?) lap(s) and there were radio communications of hydroplaning at 50mph. the whole thing seemed forced and wasn't even an enjoyable experience

Yeah it was a dangerous race but bianchi would have been ok if the spastic rescue team didn't jump into the danger zone with their rescue equipment...

it is the same procedure that has been used for a very long time. It was a freak accident more than anything, nothing will come of this accident to be honest.
