JUDGING?

I'm looking for input on judging and anyone interested in judging events at Poley Mountain and other mountains. I'd like to get event organizers together to compile a list of possible judges so that from year to year, the ski events can carry some consistency...Feedback please...

Depending on how things are going at Crabbe. I'm going to try to make it to Poley on Saturday afternoon. Let me know if you need a hand with anything.

At Crabbe we are in the same boat for judging. There were complaints about the first Big Air last year, but we got props for the good job on the Slopestyle. Didn't hear anything negative about the last big air either.

Last year we tried to get a snowboard judge and a couple of skier judges. And for the snowboard events, ideally we would go for the one skier judge and two snowboard judges. The reason for someone of the opposite side of sport as a judge I think they would be a good judge of what just plain looked good. They may not know the difference between natural or unnatural but they can sit back as say damn that was stylish. The two skiers judges would be able to judge more technical. Just my 2 cents.

I think it's also important to try and get events skier and snowboarder, even if not neccessarily competing against each other. But it gives events a bigger attendance which looks much more attractive to potential sponsors. More sponsors means more cash to run events, more prizes, more prize money and better exposure for the sport.

I think that on entrance sheets, there should be a column that asks whether you slide left-foot forward or right-foot forward, and whether you spin to the right or left.

The main thing is to have skiers who know the sport judging. we have some really good jibbers on the scene now so it's going to be tough for sure. the format should be a jam session (give the riders 30-45 minuites to session the rail and show you what they got and then pick the best tricks. all rail comps are jam sessions now. the judges have to know about the difficulty of tricks...what spins are harest on and off, one footed jibs are starting to emerge, grabs, butters, switch-ups and unnatty vers natural slides. all this has to be taken into consideration by the judges. the reason people were soo pissed off with poley last year is beacsue the judges didn't have a clue. plain and simple you need knowladgable jibbers judging jibbers. no snowboarders or 17 year old ski school girls. good luck, I'm hoping to be there. I know quite a few guys who would be great to judge but not sure if they will be competiting?
