"judging" for big air

anyone else think that the "judging" for big air in the x games last night was lame. not only did they not have real judges who knew the sport deciding who won, but they had the crowd voting on which skier they liked more. it might just be me but i think it would have been better if they actually had judges there who could make unbiased votes for each guy.

well said i completely agree. the phone texting thing was stupid. real judges would have been the way to go

yeah me too it was a win by popular demand i wouldnt mind if it was all public vote, though it would be a popularity contest.

therefore dumont would be champion

yeah, the whole phone thing was annoying, and I didnt like the format either, they should've just done 3 runs, and the top score wins, like pipe

and everyone knew olson was gonna win

Charles deffanatly had the best air, switch right 12 octo. NUTS. But jon's was sooo smooth that it didnt bug me that he won. I liked his "victory trick" more than anything else i saw

i'm pretty sure mike douglas and josh loubek are 'real judges' who know exactly what's going on. their votes (because they were two) overruled the popularity contest cell phone vote. the text thing was just to hype crowd participation and maybe guage how many viewers were into the comp.

i think that douglas knows what he is takling about. but i ddint really like the texting thing, to me its kinda unfair, mainly becasue if someones spins, and someone does a double flip, there all ugnna be like "oohhhh wow a double flip that looks fancy" and im not saying double flips arent hard, im just saying that a switch 12 octo is a way harder trick, but gagneir washed out on it so jon won. i think either of them had a good chance. im realy glad dumont didnt win.

even still, jon has been pulling that trick forever.... he victory trick was stylish as fuck for sure... but with each of their first runs i think charles deserved that for sure... shit was sooo sick... i cant believe that jon is still winning contests throwing that kangaroo over and over.

it seemed to me like they are trying to get away from the real serious comps by adding the texting to vote and having them sit there while the judges tell them who was better. they seem to have picked up on the JOI but in trying to resemble it they did a poor job. it took to long and was played out kinda to kinda put some drama into it. the whole rock paper scissors to decide who hit the jump first was really stupid. especially since they threw the same trick as the run before.

The fans vote didn't really count because if the dougles picked the someone different than the fans then the final judge would choose who would win. So the judges would always have the final say

You guys are hilarious. Everyone always complains about the judging no matter who wins and finally you actually get to be the judges, and what happens... More complaining. How many of you who are complaining about this actually texted in and voted? My guess would be zero, so shut the fuck up.

yea man that def was lame. darth vader was pretty much useless. he threw in a "that was awesome", or a "cool!/wooooah!" every now and then. and then the other guys are saying that a kangaroo flip is more complex than a SWITCH 1260 octograb. and sal is just chillen on the log being sal. freakin stupid

if you think about it, fans had a very small amount of say in who won. 50% was just a bullshit number to get people stoked on actually participating

yea this isnt american idol right? i understand that they also wanted to see how many ppl actually would vote for interest to see if they should keep big air around for next year, but come on!

YO THAT JUDGING WAS WACK!!

the big air was shit. the majority of it was about that "jumper" movie, and the rest was listening to sal masakela 'entertaining' the crowd. when sal wasnt on they were either talking to jake brown or hayden christianson. wtf tanner doesnt just show up at summer x and talk about his injuries so why jake?

Word, they should have had real judges who knew what they were doing. The announcers didn't even know what they're talking about.

What the fuck are you guys talking about? In the finals, Charles did NOT land a clean switch 12 octo (he brought that last 180 around way to quick and upright) ... jon landed a perfect kangaroo flip... am I right? What was wrong with Mike D's voting? I thought he did just fine, I agreed with every vote he made. And now you guys complain about he public voting? I thought that was a really good idea, it gave us the chance to show how we feel, and the whole point of big air is to do really big tricks to impress, so if they're impressing the general public, then they're impressive... am I right?

You guys need to quit bitchen about fucking everything. First it's Tanner winning, then the slopestyle course, now the "judging" in the big air... Man I can't wait to see what threads are made when Slopestyle goes down! I'm expecting a couple of "Wow Jossi didn't deserve the win" or "Wow Jon only won because he designed that course."

Jon is about to drop-

"Hey if he wins he is gonna get a rolls royce and put a ski rack on it!"

"He has a lambo with one on it already"

"He double flips"

as he drops again-

"Watch this roo-manuver!"

"Even marsupials can't jump as well as JUMPER or even Jon Olsson!"

"He wants a rolls with a ski rack!"

"Hey he has a lambo with a ski rack on it how cool"

and again-

"He is going down the slope, the guy with a lambo with a ski rack"

"JUMPER is a good movie"

In my oppinion, Jon is as awesome as can be, same can be said about his taste in cars, but I was pissed on how the judges dug about an inch deep to find shit to talk about during the whole comp. That five he did at the end made me audibly exclaim my pleasure and it woke my doggies up, so you know.

If you think the public voting actualy mattered you are really not thinking this through. before mike 'voted' he knew what the public thought so he could go with or against it to determine who went on/won. They would not leave a gold medal up to a popularity contest.
