JP Auclair and Andreas Fransson Missing In Avalanche

Fucking shit. This is horrible news. JP was one of my biggest heroes growing up. I'll never forget those badass knit hats he'd wear throwing backies, it made me finally realize my mom's handmade hat's were actually awesome. A true pioneer and legend of our sport.

This is so fucked, I OBSESSED over JP's segment in Propaganda as a kid. Both were true inspirations. RIP, guys.

We are losing way too many people to avys these past few years, legends and Joes alike. If you're skiing backcountry get avy certified and don't take any unnecessary risks (not that freak things don't happen). Stay safe out there this upcoming season, people.

The accident was known, said the police captain Alvaro Herrera Radio Bio Bio after the advice of a Chilean contacted by an Argentine, who in turn had spoken with two Swedes who witnessed the avalanche.

no, what the hell, seriously, like what the fuck. We lose 2 legends in one slide. this is beyond devastating

Wow this is so so sad. RIP JP and Andreas. Sending my props to their families and friends. It sends shivers down my spine to know that 2 of the greatest are gone.

Theres just no way man I don't wanna believe that. There's no reason it should happen, Andreas has been through such shit and he always has the highest of spirits and brought so much stoke and passion to what he does. Idk what to even say

Whoever translated the article written by the Chilean newspaper did not do a good job. There has not been confirmation that they are dead. Please don't send that negative energy into the universe. I read the page he referenced and it says missing... NOT DEAD!

Do you speak the language? Can you translate it properly?

Please tell me you're right. The translation doesn't look good, but likely its shady translation.

I've used two translators and both have suggested that the bodies were found. One said lifeless, the other dead. Trust me I want more than anything for this not to be true but it doesn't look good.

Here is a post off the snowHead's forum-

Yesterday Andreas Franson and JP Auclair were killed climbing to ski in Patagonia

Details so far are sketchy (some of my friends here in Cham were invlved in orgonising the rescue and are still very shake so I'm only getting this 3rd hand)

They were climbing a couloir, nearing the top something moved above them, the coiulir avalanched all the way to the glacier below.

The nearest physical help was their filmers, but they were on peaks the opposite side aof the valley - the rescue chopper had 2 hours to fly before beggining it's search. AFAIK thier boddies were finaly found this morning. (more details as I get them)

I heard this afternoon and this evening 30 of us gatherd in Moo bar for a very somber drink. We have lost a very close friend who was more philospher than daredevill. He was (again AFAIK) one exam away from his full mountain guide certification.

JP I only knew to say high to in the Midi lift que, but his exploits in the freeski and freeride world go back 2 decades. He had just returned to living in Canada having lived abroad for a while so he and his wife could have their first child in his homeland.

The flowing movie, has a rather ponient section 15.00 in about another common friend of ours we had lost. Now not Just Feilx but last year Magnus (Jesus hat in this movie), JP and Andreas

Good night and god bless

I don't know much about Andreas but obviously have been watching JP since I was a small teenager. Such a legend, and his street seg last year was dope!

holy crap this is terrible.

ski in peace both of you.

seems like every year we lose another legend

Put this on my FB wall but figured I would share it on here too. My heart is truly broken to hear this news.

Today is a seriously sad day for skiing. I remember being an awkward high schooler who never got much of a chance to ski and heading to High North Ski camp in 2000 on a whim. I was not doing great, and my skills were sub par (and still are) and JP pulled me over to the rails, clipped off his skis and hiked with me until I was able to slide that flat bar. That was a defining moment in my life and shaped the person I would become. Years later when I was a freshman at college in Crested Butte JP happened to roll through town, ever the nice guy he once again took time out of his day to session a down flat rail with me while we both tried (and often failed) to learn bs switch ups. Although I only had a few brief encounters with you over the years they were formative in my life and I'll always be grateful for that. RIP JP.

This is a beautiful story, and should be the way that every loss is remembered. By the happy times and positive impact had on all. RIP

Devestated....

JP and Andreas, thank you both so much for all you have done for this sport, you will continue to be inspirations for us all. To everyone with the privilege to spend time in the backcountry, PLEASE do everything you can to stay safe and always stay on the side of caution.

RIP

Rest in peace JP and Andreas. Never really heard of Fransson but i've Always been a big fan of Auclair. This is a really sad day...

This is too much. It seems the universe is determined to not let our legends live to old age. SIP J.P and Andreas, two of the most radical dudes to ever live.

This is too much.

This is terrible news.

For some reason I normally do not care that much when stars or celebrities die, but it is something with skiers who pass that always get to me. Maybe it is because most of them are so dedicated to their passion, and feel so real, free and down to earth... qualities I think are rare to come by today.

I'm playing "Little Wing" for you tonight. Thoughts to everyone you know and who love you, I cant imagine what shocking news this must be.

SIP, guys, skida i frid.

wow. 2 huge losses for the skiing community. ski in peace, thoughts and prayers out to their families and friends. lost two great skiers today.

Andreas was interviewed on a Swedish podcast last year, and it's very philosophical and very good. its the single most influential and inspiring words or story in my life since i heard it the first time. this is just... i dont know.. On hand Andreas stories and words has helped me and surely many other to cope with the extreme reality if death. But on the other hand I just fucking cant

Ski in peace JP and Andreas

Vila i frid eller vad säger man. Låt bergen guida dig hem

He lived more in 37 years than most would in 10 lifetimes over. Keep shredding in the clouds.
