JOSS: what about rails/boxes?

I know Jon doesn't like rails or boxes as much as jumps but I read something about him wanting JOSS to incorporate all parts of the filming, photographing and skiing. With his amazing jump building I think there should at least be one or two good rail features so the riders don't have to go to the park for not so legit features. I was thinking a big disaster flat down box or a cannon box or just a really advanced and manicured rail park who knows maybe something we've never seen before. I know they could still get some urban shots but what the hell is Candide gonna cork 810 onto?

i wanna hear your opinion on the idea not the first two features that came to my mind after watching x games all weekend

I want to see a 50'+ gap rail...LIke up flat down, just everyone doing nines over the flat...Would be scary and probably unsafe though...

we all love to ski pow but for most people on NS, thats not something easily accesible

On the other hand, rails are a toooooonnnnnnnnnn of fun and a hell of a lot harder and more challenging than skiing pow. I bet theres a ton of midwest kids that could rip your ass in and out of the park.

if you gunna make comments like that you should really leave this website

ripping big ass pow lines is harder than rails because you don't know what youre getting into a lot of the time, but rails take a lot of time to get good at whereas shredding pow is more natural if you have good form. but there definitely need to be some rails in this one.

JOSS is a big air comp. Not a rail/box comp. There is a reason 4 of the 5 features were one hits. Thats because it is a big air comp.

Well because its run by jon olsson, and rails arnt his favorite thing to do

idk why your complaining, its a sweet comp and allows competitors to show what they can do in one aspect of the sport

No, JOI is a big air comp. JOSS is a super session. As said by Jon on his website under JOSS the Concept:
"In Conclusion
Ever since I started doing events, I have always wanted to fuse all aspects"
I think the only reason rails/boxes are not in it is because Jon isn't a big fan of them, neither am I, and there is generally a higher risk of injury, but I think to really make it a super session all parts of the sport (at least the man-made) should be incorporated. I guess by that logic half-pipe or quarter-pipe should also be included but theres not too much to do creatively with that except the tricks themselves (other than gaps, size and stalls).

i wanna see like a dew tour style cannon box, like 50 foot gap. into a down box. so like launch off the cannon. do a ten. slide the down box. pretzel out of course.

If you watched last year's edits, there were plenty of urban shots. I don't think Jon wants to set up a slopestyle course as the jumps are placed according to the back-drop for photo and video aesthetics and rails and boxes would a little more difficult to add to the mix.

in the middle of the main jump a huge flat down that goes from the middle of the jump to the bottom of the landing

i, for one, would be extremely impressed, or a disaster fd to u box which acted as a cannon box then to the dfd s rail. id pay 100 dollars to anyone who could grease that

ok fair enough

and i like the idea but since it is jon who runs the thing i dont think it would happen, pluss everyone would get dominated by t wall.

Have you ever watched Jon hit rails? He is as good as most pros, just not into it. Last year when all Breck had was rails, he hiked all day.

As many others have said before: It's Jon, he likes building jumps, and he's good at it. If you really are going to take the "fuse all aspects" that deeply, you'd have to incorporate racing, moguls, ariels (which he did last year). We won't get into the free heal side of things, 'cause as I say "Fix the Heal, Fix the Problem". Nah - I'm just messin' with ya... right, back to the topic.

Halfpipes wouldn't be good for the event because it's all about big, nice jumps. A pipe is shaped by a machine that does it the same every time. If they wanted to ride a halfpipe, they'd go somewhere and ride a halfpipe. No, Jon's comp is above pipes. Although I nicely shaped Qp with some special sauce would be sweet. I am not against rails in the competition... but I'm not sure if it fits the feel of the comp. It would be interesting to see a mogul run for one of the features. Make the moguls a bit bigger and rounder so it's less high impact and more cruisie... yea, I don't know, I'll stop now.

wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.......did you really just say skiing rails is tougher than pow......pshhhhhhhhhhhhh whatever man

i guess i'll just have to accept what is gonna probably gonna happen haha. just the fact that candide and twall are in got me thinking of ridiculous disasters onto boxes and rails

wowwwwwwwwwwww can you be a little bit more fucking ignorant? sure sliding a 5 foot rail isn't as hard as dropping a 50 foot cliff but would you say spinning onto a gnarly urban dfd is easier than dropping a 10 ft cliff?

every aspect of skiing is different and one isn't necessarily harder or easier than the other

So if you're going to continue with your ignorant comments please do so somewhere else

the feature would have to be super trickable, not just some crazy kink s rail. The whole point of JOSS is to get tons of good shots and tricks. I think a cannon box or gap to FD would work the best for this

^^^^ agreed....

But I thing a S cannon would be cool to see... even though it would throw you in weird directions lol

wall rides and tree jibs. maybe those crazy white plastic shits that were in long story short.

as far as rails go? huge A frame duhh
