Jon's Quest for the Olympics

First let me just say that I love seeing Tanner and Jon together at the JOI. Reminds me of the old Happy Dayz days with PBP.

Anyway, is he still trying to earn a spot on the Swede team for Sochi? Referring of course to racing and not pipe/slope. Haven't seen an update in a while and wanted to know how that was progressing? I know qualifying was going to be an uphill battle so I'm assuming it's probably not going to happen.

why, i dont believe tanner has done well enough in any comp to even get him started on qualifying let alone done enough comps in the season. and jon finishes relitivley well in his races so he be on the swede c team

tanner is ranked 15th on the current fis points list for halfpipe of all americans (41st overall). top 4 americans get the quota spots for sochi. certainly within the realm of possibility for him to move up if you look at who is in front of him between now and then.

i think outside of Torin and Wise, the last two spots are pretty wide open for the US but as evident at X games, Tanner needs to close the gap in his technical game between now and then

who's ranking are they going by? FIS? AFP?

He's sitting right around 20 overall in the AFP rankings, and about 20th in the USA in FIS points

I think there are plenty of guys ahead of him other than Torin and David that will make it VERY HARD for T to make it.

Guys like: Aaron Blunck, Dumont, Kenworthy, Alex Ferreira etc.

you must have forgotten the part where jon was the first person ever to do the following tricks:

-double cork 1260

-switch double rodeo 1080

-double rodeo 900

-switch double cork 1260

i dunno man, some of those jumps are pretty big in GS and a switch dub could give him the edge in a race...

jon did do a 180 while racing last year too

I'd love to see it, but it's just not going to happen. Both are legends but there are just too many amazing atheletes standing in their ways. It doesn't matter though, without tanner and Jon there would be no pipe/slopestyle in the Olympics. And we all knew Jon was never going to the Olympics for racing. There are legions of racers who spend everyday of their lives from childhood fighting tooth and nail for a chance at a spot in the Olympics. There is no way that a jibber could ever pick up the sport at 25 and expect to go anywhere seriouse with it. I wish Jon would start big mountain skiing, that would be sick.
