Jobs that allow you to live anywhere?

So I have been thinking a lot lately about what I want to do with my life.

I would love to live in a remote area of Montana, with a small house, a dog, and not a person for a few miles.

Are there any jobs that can allow you to live in a geographic area of choice as long as its cheap and physically possible.

I will have a degree in 3/4 years, but will do anything if it allows me to live life the way I want to.

A marksman living in exile is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president. Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he goes on the run to track the real killer and find out who exactly set him up, and why

I feel you man. I would love to live somewhere like that: Utah, Colorado, Montana, Oregon and California are top on my list. I don't really know what I'm doing career wise and everything, but if you're looking for flexibility entrepreneurship is the way to go.

I have considered a photographer, that would be really cool.

In response to some of the other replies:

I have been referred to as the Unabomber by some, and shooter is one of my favorite movies.

it's good for sure. You could be a freelance writer, web designer, anything internet or computer based really

their are tons....DoctorNurseTeacherParamedicTrainerCoachSomething in ITMarketingCookChefHRLawyerStock BrokerBurger FlipperPlumberMechanicBar TenderCarpenterSo many more

Air Traffic Control - you can live in any state in the US or US territories and as long as you're willing to bear the commute 4 days a week... you can basically live anywhere

Whats a smoke jumper? I like your other suggestion though, and they seem to go well with my current major.

Should also note that I plan to join the military upon graduation at this point unless something better comes up.

Smoke Jumpers are Firemen that skydive into the vicinity of wildfires as a first response team in area that can't be reached quickly by conventional means. It means getting a firefighter job, which is hard enough (especially if your aren't a minority and don't know anyone really who is a fireman), then you need to get on a Hot Shot team, who live away from home for weeks at a time fighting wildfires. If you are incredibly good at that, and do it for a time, then you might become a smoke jumper.
My first instinct is maybe something to do with geology, where you would live in remote areas for periods of time to do extended geological surveys. It pays pretty well and the classes are fairly easy too.

distant weatherman, mass marijuana grower, hippie, forest ranger, web sales and such, stock trading, raise exotic birds and animals to be sold on the black market for immigrant chinese food delicacies

A smokejumper is a wildland firefighter who parachutes into a remote area to combat wildfires.Smokejumpers are most often deployed to fires that are extremely remote. The extra risk associated with this method is justified by reaching a wildfire shortly after ignition when it is still relatively small. Another argument for delivering wildland firefighters by parachute is that the fixed-wing aircraft that carry smokejumpers are cheaper to operate over long distances, carry more personnel and equipment and have higher top speeds than the helicopters often used for other fire deployments. While remoteness is one reason parachute deployment is used, it adds to the risk inherent in smokejumping as crews are often hours away from help if the wind shifts or someone gets injured. The ordinary risk of a parachute jump, the adverse conditions for the jump, and the lack of resources for firefighting and rescue once on the ground in a remote area give smokejumping a reputation as exceedingly dangerous work.

^jk. but man, you can get a job most anywhere if you have somesorta business degree. or dare i say it massage theropy!!! if you get down rubbin peeps out. ha

Pharmacy is a good gig. My old girlfriend did it and she makes like $25 an hour without a degree. She said it was really stressful though but she was probably just bitching.

like somoene just above me said, stocks or forex.
you can trade on the market you want.......so you don't necessarily have to "work" the 9-4 hours the US stock market is open, but you could work "second" and trade on the london stock exchange, or even trade forex 24x7.
also my friend informed me of this which is kind of interesting. air traffic controllers must know english....this isn't a problem for you obviously, but I was kind of amused thinking that english is the air traffic controller universally accepted language. that could mean job prospects in all kinds of places where other people would struggle for a job.
if you can make a living off stocks you have to be either good and manage risk really well, or you need to have a couple million laying around. Because you could really easily invest in low risk stocks, and live on the dividends alone if you had 2-3 million.
The only downside to this profession is that well, not everyone has enough cash to be able to live on dividends.

None of these jobs would really work well in isolated rural Montana, except illustrator that was a good suggestion. You could also be a farmer if your not interested in this don't ruin our depleting natural areas by building another ramshackle house, so many people move to Montana with this idea in mind and end up living right next to ten other people who were trying to do the same thing.

get a good paying normal job, save up all your money then move to wherever you want, live the simple life and you wont have to work much

drug dealer. but seriously if you become a doctor you can live pretty much anywhere in the world because everywhere in the world needs doctors same thing with teachers

I know a few people who "work" exclusively from home.

One guy I know plays online poker, he has a bunch of computers, maybe 7-8 in one room and just plays poker. He gets pretty good cash but is a disgusting person. Sweaty and smelly, and he did the math one time and he is making like 5 bucks an hour.

You could day trade but you need capital to start and it is pretty tough. I just started with 1,000 in an account and now I have 1,050 over about a month. I have a buddy who started at the same time with 8g's (new home buyer credit) and now he has like 6. He is way smarter than me, there are just no guarantees.

Trade and farming jobs are hard and require skill.

There are a lot of other people that work from home but you usually have to put in a few years before you can move to a position like that.

scuba instructors are in high demand right now, but if you wanna live out in the woods just spend a year building a shack in the mountains, you only need money for occasional food and hunting supplies. you would probably want to take a course in outdoor survival though
i kinda feel that way too, but i have like 5 years till im done school

online graphic art design? you could design logos for peoples compnanies and stuff... yesterday my mom payed me to make an animated .gif for her companies powerpoint thingies

you could:

grow marijuana

raise pigs and sell their delicious insides

make new gps maps that show speed camera locations

photographer

ski instructor

farmer

take up hot air ballooning

endless.

by the way i'm totally into that remote location business thing. i wanna be in south dakotalol.

get a nursing degree. Become a traveling nurse.

hospitals will pay for you to come live somewhere and pay for everything including a high wage

Just so everyone knows, I am already getting a degree, and I don't plan on changing my major. This thread was for after a few years of experience in the world.

I also dont plan on trying to rough it Montana like somone suggested I was going to do. I want to live in a house with power and the basic comforts of home.

create the next best thing since the chairlift... then live off royalties.

Or become a photographer and sell your prints online, or become an online teacher.

you should just work for logging / mining / energy company in Montana, there will be tons, and they will pay you well.
