im wanting to move out west and work at a ski resort how hard is it to get a job in places such as mammoth or any of the vail resorts and would this be worth it

not hard if you have half a brain and a clean record. just about about anybody can wash dishes which is enough to earn yourself a seasons pass. best think to do is scout the internet and start sending in applications.

anybody real well connected to a ski resort that could hook a ns brother up with a good job at resort prefarably not in cafeteria or kitchen

theres always ski school, lift ops or park crew if ur lucky but nobody on ns whos "connected" is gonna personally refer or vouch for you unless you know them. what are we gonna say? "uh well ive never met him and cant speak for his work ethic but i he talked to me on the internet so he must be cool" get real, man up and write ur resume like everyone else.

No offense but I'm not gonna vouch for someone I don't know. Just put a previous employer that likes you as your reference, and make sure you call and follow up. A lot.

then dont comment and say no haha i know how to do that and ive been a lift op before so i feel like i got a good chance at being a lift op somewhere

This is how my mountain is as well, probably the same throughout most small operations. But work is usually pretty plentiful in terms of work hours.

At Mammoth, ski school instructors get minimum wage ($8/hour) for showing up, even if you don't get a lesson. Teaching rates vary based on certification ($2/hour extra for each level of PSIA cert) and how many hours in the season you've worked ($2/hour extra for every 75 hours that season that you've worked). Plus an extra $7/hour for getting a requested private. Plus tips.

ski school, lift ops, cats op, snowmaking jobs at vail dont get posted mid to late august, i personally went to hq and asked.

But... you have to have the patience of a saint if you are starting without any certs, and it doesn't really seem like this kid has that.

Seriously, unless you can handle 4 year olds pissing their pants, don't do it. If you had instructed already or worked at the resort you are applying at already, it's different. But if it's your first year at any resort and you have no certifications, you get stuck with the shittiest classes. This is typically fine if it's at home and you're just doing it as a job, but you'll have a lot more fun if you try for lift ops since you've already done it.

Most major resorts give you one to two hour ride breaks and you still get 2 days off, the atmosphere is more relaxed and they tend to stick together and have insta friends at whatever resort you go to.

Don't do ski school unless you want it as your career or you really love little kids.

If you have some really solid edits, you may be able to get a job in park staff even though it doesn't sound like you've done it. But you'll want to include those in your resume, add a link to your vimeo or something like that.

Also, really figure out what sort of town you want to live in. They each have super distinct personalities and traits that can make or break your experience.

I worked as a night cleaner at Breckenridge Colorado, and skied over 150 days this year good luck trying to get that job everyone wants it.

So much this. My home resort has a program that reimburses your membership if you help with ski school for 40 hours. Also, you get your level one training, etc. Since I'm not that good with spoiled kids, it was hell. Though, it was good to get my money back.

Depends what kind of job that you want.

Makes the difference between your instantly hired anywhere to good fucking luck trying to get that job anywhere.

well asking random people on the internet to hook you up with jobs is pointless cuz nobody is gonna do that. since you've done lift ops you should be solid if you can refer your employer to an old supervisor. thats really all you need.
as someone else mentioned, night cleaning is also a solid option. if the mountain offers these positions, you can ski everyday you want.
