JINDABYNE

So I thought I'd make a thread about Jindabyne and the surrounding areas (Perisher, Thredbo, Cooma etc.) for anyone heading down there this summer.

One thing i've noticed over the past few days is that sorting accomodation is a real bitch down there. It seems like most people go in shared flats with randomers. I don't have anything sorted yet for accomodation so if there are any NSers in a similar situation hit me up! I reckon a shared NS flat would be sickk.

Also if you know anything at all about Jindy please post advice, stories, tips etc. Literally enough relevant cos I have no idea what the fuck i'm doing and what the fuck to expect. And if you're going make yourself known for a potential NS shred sesh.peace!

I'll pretty much just give all the information I know.

Okay as Thredbo is my home resort, I'll let you know a few things.

Thredbo is a 'steeper' mountain compared to Perisher. Perisher has better and more parks. It doesn't have a village compared to Thredbo.

If you're going to Thredbo, get a few donuts from the kiosk (at the bottom of Friday Flats). There's also the recreation centre where there's a gym/trampoline centre.

Early season will generally suck. The jump line is generally takes a few weeks to be built as there is not enough snow. Mid way though the season is 'generally' when all the terrain parks are built, but once again it really depends on the season.

Don't duck under ropes. I did last year, I was literally skiing on a few inches of snow (was like glue).

Everything is overpriced at the mountains. A pie is like $6.

Jindy-ehh. not much to say. it's kinda shity. If you go to Woolies (Woolworths), and then out to a courtyard/plaza place, there is a bakery of sorts. The thick shakes there are pretty magical.

Pretty much everything in Jindy is overpriced as well. My personal favourite ski store is ESS, it's a shop which sells freestyle orientated stuff. All the shops are pretty close.

There's also a skatepark if that rides your boat.

For accomodation there's this caravan place, and it's really nice. They have demountables which is relatively cheap and there's a kitchen. It's pretty much on the t junction where the road splits to either Thredbo or Perisher.

For food, there's this Malaysian restaurant called Maiya asian cuisine or something. It's pretty good and not too expensive. It's near the caravan park.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask me any questions.

Thanks mate. Do you have any advice regarding getting accomodation for the season? (aside from the obvious facebook group and google searches etc..) Cheers

hmmm. I go normally with my school or friends and they take care of it. I have stayed a Discovery Holiday Parks (the demountable one I was talking about). It's pretty basic, but this was at least 3-4 years ago.

I stayed at Lakeview plaza last season. Once again, pretty basic but more homey than Holiday Parks and I would say one of the cheaper places at Jindy.

If you're only staying for a few days, I would personally sleep in the car.

If not, maybe try to check out some early bird deals. I would recommend staying in Jindy, but if you're willing to pay the extra dosh, staying at Thredbo is very convenient, as there is a supermarket there.

But yeah, definately share a room with a few mates/newschoolers if possible.

jindy is a lot cheaper than staying at a resort, but that said staying in thredbo is pretty fun, and they have a woolies or something like that to buy food at, and the rec center has a suprtramp and two smaller ones as well as an airbag. so thats pretty sick.

Sorry but why would you travel all that way to go ski the Australian resorts when NZ is better skiing and half the price?

Move to Mt Hotham its way better. Perisher is flat and full of posers.. Thredbo is better and good on a pow day but gets boring after a while.. If you wanna live in jindy rent a caravan at pats patch near the station resort.. It's cheap as shit and ghetto fab. If I was you though I'd move to Hotham for the winter.. You'll have way more fun

Definitely stay in Jindy if you plan to ride at Perisher. Every liftie I knew in Perisher hated living on mountain and there is absolutely no nightlife. Jindy is a small town but has all the essentials you need like a grocery store, liquor store, snow shops, chemist ect. Cooma is about 45 minute drive and doesn’t really offer more than Jindy except has some fast food places(McDonalds, KFC) and a massive snow shop(Rhythm).

As for accommodation if you get desperate you can check:http://www.gumtree.com.au/

People chuck up ads when they are looking for roommates or owners planning to rent their places out.

As for food if you get an epic pass you get discounts at certain places that partner with Perisher. They own the station down in Jindy which has lots of gigs in winter as well 15% off food and beverages.

As well from 2-18th July will be really busy due to NSW school holidays. So if you can try and avoid it especially on Friday afternoons and Saturday. If you do go up, go as early as you can because the carparks pack out real quick and the Snowtube get super busy.

So I've made some contact with other peeps in the same situation, but they're all snowboarders (not that i really mind). Theres also quite a few large apartments popping up on gumtree etc. and by the looks of things it's the more the merrier, at least in terms of price. So yeah this offer is still very much open...
