Seems kinda lame that a huge rapper like Jay Z would steal lyrics from a fairly underground rapper like RA.
 
Are you serious? that's not a lyric, that's five words, and something that Vikings and Huns did to their foes. Do I have the power to nominate?

Come on you can clearly see that being an easy-to-make logical though. Hmmm, when people say rape, what else goes with rape, pillage, fantastic. Rape and pillage. Now lets see, what rhymes with pillage? Oh got it. Village. BAM, lyric.

Shit like this probably happens all the time in the music industry, and it is up to the band, the producer, and the rest of the people involved to try to catch it. If it goes uncaught though, threads like this get made.
 
this is what i assumed from reading the title, but it seems like it was just a coincidence. it's really just one line with two rhyming words that make logical sense together. and i'm pretty sure jay-z doesn't need to steal lines from jedi mind
 
thats five fucking words you dumbass, you can't really call a phrase stealing. Go through your rap collection and tell me there aren't repeats of phrases.

 
sampling is when you take a piece of the song as recorded and remix it into your own work, not just take the lyrics dude...
 
Arists use other artists lyrics all the damn time. I'm pretty sure Jay-Z gave Jedi Mind Tricks credit for it. Stop whining, OP.
 
That they do it all the time does not make it acceptable.

Sorry, I happen to be a stickler for copyright law when it comes to plagarism of work. Photography does that to you.
 
Lets put these in context. I find it ridiculous that people think Jay needs to give credit for a group of 5 words that are commonly used for the act of ransacking a village. What would you rather have him say? Force sex and plunder your village?

now that i've done this I personally think that the two should switch their lines. Mainly because the use of "your" would fit better in jay's.

 
i know this is old but i had to get on it. have you ever heard the big l song, or did you just look at the title? jay-z is talking about wearing "all black everything" just to look like a g, but the whole big l song is saying that if you fuck with him he'll kill you and "have your family dressed in all black"
 
Kinda happens all the damn time. Listen to more hip hop, its everywhere. Some of it is tasteful recognition and some of it is just straight biting.

He didnt steal those lyrics. Its a phrase thats been used in numerous songs probably some movies and who knows how many other people. No copyright laws were broken here folks.

And to the guy that said Jay-Z stole Big L's lyric you are wrong. That is true about Big L meaning he's going to have your whole family dressed in black. And Jay recites Big L often and gives him credit for it. He was set to sign with Rockafella records before he got shot.
 
he doesn't. it's another coincidence. i'm assuming the reference was to jay-z's verse in "run this town," where he has one line about "all black everything." kid was clearly hoping to just drop some knowledge using big l's name and assumed that nobody else had heard the song/would call him out on it.
 
Do you know how many rappers say the same words in similar forms? thats like saying one rapper said "ill shoot you in the knee caps" copied the other rapper who probably said the same thing before, there are only so many words.
 
Read XXL, this is a common occurance in the rap game, and XXL complies 4 similar lyrics in each one of their magazines.

copied and pasted the gucci lyrics. theyre a bit messed up but whatever i dont feel like listening to it

Someone else said that this line is used all the time in songs and movies but I garauntee you couldn't find an example. Notice how he didn't post one.

A lot of people mentioned that rappers use each others lyrics all the time. Well some rappers do, and its lame as hell, and when they do, its usually short common slang terms and phrases like 'swagger' or 'go hard' or 'smoke ls' but clearly 'rape and pillage a village' is not a term thats being used all the time.

Also Jay-Z doesn't give RA credit for it.

pretty sure I've heard that in like 5 different tv shows and several songs..its not a lyric, practically a phrase
 
that's funny, the first 3 links when i googled it had nothing to do with either of those songs, not to mention the 77,500 other results that mention VIKINGS instead of JAY-Z. i don't know what more evidence you need that this is a pretty common phrase.
 
Dude, give it up. It's a fucking phrase. Don't even try to call me out and tell me I need to spot an example for you. How bout you quit being fucking ignorant, and understand those five words create an action/group of actions that my fellow Nordic ancestors bestowed upon their victims. Obviously RA didn't make up the phrase 'rape and pillage'. Go google "rape and pillage a village" or "rape and pillage your village" with the quotes and it will be all shit about monster and uncommon valor
