Jason Levinthal is the Fucking Man

Major shout out to Jason and J skis, I was just chillin' at work and I got a call from an unknown number and I answered it, only to speak with Jason fucking Levinthal! He called to let me know that the Stepp skis I ordered were waiting on some materials and they would ship a week later than announced, so that I knew what the deal was and to not be concerned when they came later than expected. A move like that from a company shows how dedicated they are to customer satisfaction and just being a solid company in general, and it makes me want to buy more shit from J skis just because I know they'll deliver what they say they will.

TL;DR: Jason and Jskis is fucking awesome and has won my loyalty before I even have my skis in

I now have a mental image of Steve Stepp answering the phone with a fake Indian accent.

I mean it's cool in all he called but I woulda been a bit upset it's taken an extra week, you gotta keep up on your materials. I'd want to be compensated like a free beanie or something. Either way your gunna be stoked those skis are fuckin ill

Got the same call! He was totally happy about it!

I'd wait a year for skis from him if I had to; such a good guy.

Jason Levinthal you are a good man!

J is such a good guy. All he wants to do is make skis. Not blow up a big corporate, (one of the reasons he left Line) and start Jskis. Im really hoping to see what he has in store for the skiing community (alien hybrid skis that eats Line afterbangs nbd)

They're not Comcast. They're a small company being honest and straight forward with their customer. If I were runnign the company, I'd probably offer free expedited shipping in exchange for the delays, but fuck giving you a free beanie just because you think you're entitled to it. It's nice enough that he took both the initiative and time out of his busy day to give a customer a personal call.

The same thing happened to me with Virtika. David Lesh (The guy from the Last Friday and This Friday videos) called me to tell me that one of the items I ordered had gone out of stock and asked if I wanted to get something else or wait for a new one to come in. Pretty Rad!

In response to others you realize a beanie cost around 8 bucks to make my parents have a winery and pay other people to produce embroidered items it's really not that huge of a price. I'm not hating on j just saying he did what is expected when you mess up it just so happened the company is small enough that he doesn't have other people making calls for him. And a week can be pretty long depending on your situation ie: you snap your last pair of sticks and now have your season on hold for a week longer then expected.

Your right they're not its a small company making limited runs of skis, which have been available for pre order forever. It's not like they has no idea how many were gunna be ordered. I get that it's a new company and hes probably new to the whole planning/ managing aspect of operating a business. In no way am I saying j skis isn't a legit company, I was simply pointing out that he deffinatly didn't go above and beyond as op was implying. I'm probably just jelly haha I want a pair soooo bad. Give them a little while and I bet they'll be running like top.

Yes, I realize that. Which is why I said free expedited shipping. The point was that asking for free shit is silly. J Skis didn't fuck up, one of their supplier probably didn't deliver materials on time, causing an unforeseen issue in meeting production needs.

Hell Yeah! Levinthal is working hard and closely with the athletes to get this ski just right. Guy is no stranger to the phone, awesome to see someone like that.

OK hold the fucking presses here...

So listen - I get it that you feel that a company has done wrong if their production line is not absolute perfection, and that you can't just go out to your local shop and purchase the latest, greatest piece of equipment from Megabrand X expecting nothing but flawless execution.

I totally get it. I even agree with you... and frankly if that is the way you feel, then you should absolutely go out to your local shop and buy megabrand X.

However... something like J skis is a completely different animal. From ski shaping to graphics, you're looking at a totally microbrew and boutique setup. Will you have a couple of bobbles in construction and delivery? Sure. If you want absolute perfection, then you go with mass market stuff that is built in massive factories to serve the needs of the aggregate masses. If that's your jam, then more power to you!

The thing is that the smaller brands are going to have quirks... because they're way more boutique and tailored to a very specific set of needs. The only way to get this specialization is from shirking off the stability of the mass market ski.

So in the end... if you want to get some skis shaped by some crazy bastard that knows more than anyone else in this universe about the construction of a twin-tip ski... then buy J skis and suck it the fuck up if he's a bit late.

If you want the hottest mass-market skis out there and you don't give a flying fuck about how specific the gear is then fuck it... megabrand X is your bag and I encourage you to buy it!

HELLLOOOOOOOOOO!.... oooooo... oooo...

That's my echo from screaming into that stupid child's bunghole after Bishop just ripped into it. That was almost as exciting as visiting the Grand Canyon for the first time!

My point is that Jason took the time to actually call me (and other who had bought skis) to personally tell us what was going on. He could've sent out a mass email to all of us, but he took the time to make sure that we got the message directly from him. I don't give a flying fuck that my skis are coming in late, it made my day that the company I bought from cared enough about its customers to keep them in the loop with regards to the production process of their skis.

can we just ban Sky. now?

j Skis is small.. like its just Jay and two other dudes... cut them some slack. Good to see jay getting back to his roots and doing his thing his way. Line got too big for him and he wanted that small ski company feel again. I think its awesome. Doug is right 100%.

so i'm not going to pretend to know anything about Jskis or Jason Levinthal but from reading the thread it seems like quite a few people have been told that they're going to have to wait longer than expected for their skis and for a start up business that's not great. im expecting a world of hate for saying this but isn't ringing up a customer to tell them their product will be late the least a startup company can do. (saying that, i can imagine many companies that wouldn't). i hope that J skis does well as i think small companies are often innovative and bring new things to the market; i just thought there was a too much hate for people saying Jason Levinthal is anything less than saintly when all he's doing is trying to run his company in a legit way.

Gotta love people on NS.

Jason is in no way new to the whole "planning/managing aspect of operating a business." I am hoping this is trolling because you are talking about the dude who started LINE SKIS.

Megabrand X does not call people the way Jason can for J Skis because they have an astronomically large amount of inventory and end users, and on top of that they do not make skis on the fly but spend the whole year manufacturing them in China. Jason is doing something totally different and there will be kinks along the way, but if his idea sticks and if it can be sustainable on the scale he envisions it will be relatively smooth sailing for J Skis.

Jason knows what he is doing by and far more if not just as much as anyone in the industry, and I am sure he expected problems to occur. Mad props to J on taking the time to call each and every person who preordered and will not be receiving their skis at the time that was expected. This does not happen enough in the industry and embodies what skiing is all about.

More props to the guys who preordered and appreciated this gesture and didn't get upset because they felt entitled enough to think they deserved more because a new, small company couldn't get their skis to them in the time previously expected.

tl;dr

you do know he started line right? he is so interactive with his customers doing a survey for their new ski length. hes not new to this hes a legend he ran line for 10+ years

Wow Bishop way to call the local ski shop "The Man." You say support a microbrew brand like J Skis, but then make the ski shops stocking mega brand ski names the enemy. I know you don't mean this but it sounds rather antagonistic towards the ski shops. Buy local ya bish

He wasn't referringn to the actual ski shop as the "the man", I think he was referring to the big name brands they carry as "the man".

Even more reason to be compensated all you guys are saying is a seasoned business man couldn't meet his own quota. If you have 10 yrs planning and managing a business there is no excuse for this fuck up. Especially when people PREORDERED from a set number of skis to be available. Too each his own, I expect more from a company then the rest I guess, regardless of whom is running it. Some NS have got to be familiar with the company Churchill mfg (they make longboards an such) I had a similar problem ordered a squat tail which was 25 bucks. Got an email saying sorry it's on backorder and will be shipped about a week later then expected they then thanked me for my patience and said I'd have some free shit. Fast forward a week I get my package with the square tail plus they're liquor bomber deck and a few magazines. I'm not saying its possible for every company to do that especially when it come to skis that would be ridiculous but a beanie something of very low cost to make would be the right thing to do. A lot of you guys may not think so but that right there is how you create a loyal and appreciative customer base.

Sorry for the double post, but this kind of rubbed me the wrong way too (pun unintended).

Jason has done so much for skiing that he deserves a high level of respect. Everyone defending him shows just how much respect he actually has in the community. So if they want to "ride his dick", they are 100% justified in doing it.

Continue dick riding.

Right? There's not that many people in the ski industry that get this much respect from NS (besides Sir Wallnuts).
