Has anyone seen this movie or read the book?

I read the book and then I saw the movie. Pretty fucking intense I would say. Cant imagine even being a marine, shit looks intense.

there isnt much actual fighting, but its like all about the pyschcology of a marine and shit. Kinda funny.

"Hey look! Its a cock only smaller!"

newspapers often are the opposite to what i think anyway so it doesnt mean anythin to me what people rate it

Sometimes I think they make movies like that so people that watch it are like "oh I could be a hero like that" or some shit. Like it looked corny as fuck in the commercial when he says "hoo rah" I was like...... wow so corny

Its a pretty interesting book...I met the guy who its about, anthony swofford. He's a weird dude who obviously has some problems. It was funny cuz he swore a shitload like he does in the book, and it was for a lecture at my university.

Good Article about it and war movies in general in this month's (november0 Harper's magazine

uhh yeah this movie blew a rino's balls.

you can see more action on the news and its FREE

i dont believe its a movie about the action of the war. its about the psychological effect on people? havent seen it but my roommate said it sucked cause of no action. i knew it wasnt gonna be an action flick, more of a "look what it does type thing."

yes exactly, but you have to be cooped up in a shack not to know what kind of emotional shit goes on when joining the military

good movie, it realize a little what it is like to be over there. i thought it was especially interesting since i had many friends parents in iraq for that. both my parents were in the army but they didnt go luckily.

the direction and cinematography and artsy stuff (if you are into that) is great.

go see it.

i think its funny that our country has sunk so low to make reality movies and tv shows about a fucking war where people are dieing currently just to make money

i thought it said herpes at first. kinda funny if u think about it, all these people dres like soldiers with guns, fighting herpes. okay maybe not

The marine in the movie who plays the retarded guy, and says "Hey its a cock, only smaller" is also the retarded guy in 8 mile.

He must be pro at playing retarded characters.

I paid $7.25 too see Arabs get shot and killed at. During the movie when I found out they were going to be snipering them, I was stocked, and then when not one arab was shot in front of your face I was pissed. it was funny, but I wanted violence, and that's not what I got

i didnt catch an anti-war vibe at all, i really enjoyed this movie and although it kinda scares me it also has me excited for the marine corps.

and when the guy in the commercial goes...."hoo rah" hes not trying to be a hero hes just talking about how much he enjoys his job as a marine.... whats wrong with that?

A lot of you guys are being idiots. That movie was amazing. Even if you were going into that theatre expecting tons of action, you still should've came out with a mind set.

Sitting there watching, I really felt like I was there the soldiers. If you didn't notice, about 80% of the movie was filmed at eye-level. Making the person watching feel more attached. My mood changed throughout the film depending on what was happening. The part where the guys wife sent him the "deer hunter" tape, I can honostly say I was pissed off inside. How would you like to be these guys in the desert and have your "loving wife" do shit like that to you. I actually liked a girl who had a boyfriend over in Iraq. I felt like such a dirtbag even thinking about liking her. Stuff like that is all these guys have to look forward to. I'll be honost I couldn't take it over there. It's enough to drive a man insane... and it clearly showed in the movie.

Even before seeing this film I didn't support the action in Iraq. This just makes me want to get our boys out more than ever. It showed perfectly well how these guys get brainwashed to the point of no return... no sign of self reasoning... no independent thought. A lot of them went scared of killing someone, but ending up BEGGING AND PLEADING to kill. And literally what did they do there??? Nothing. Like the one soldier said, that walked around the desert for 200 days, and for what? They didn't go to training to become soldiers... but to become machines. Just because I don't support the war, doesn't mean that I don't care about these guys. It's just such a shame that a lot of them will never be the same.

And if you're that immature to walk away from that movie pissed because you didn't see anyone get killed, shame on you.

I'm in the process of reading the book now.

i wasnt sure if i should feel ashamed to not be fighting, or happy. i was confused, although it was damn good

The way I would describe this movie...ho hum.

I seriously didn't walk away from that movie with anything. And no, I wasn't expecting a gore-fest. I just thought it was utterly uninteresting.

I'm sure it must be so stressful sitting in the desert doing absolutely nothing for less than a year. Some people that I talked to thought it was a deep and moving film. I tend to disagree.

Seriously, whats so emotionally moving about watching a bunch of guys fret about their girlfriends for 2 hours. If I wanted to watch people get homesick, I would have been a councilor at a summer camp.

Those troops had to deal with stress and come to terms with their problems...great...what about solders that actually saw combat? The had to cope with the emotional stress of being way from their girlfriends for almost a year...great...what about the solders that also had to cope with the emotional stress of having their comrades/friends shot. They had to settle their differences so they could do some drills...great...what about the solders that also had to settle their differences so they could survive in battle.

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time taking a movie like this seriously when the biggest dilemma is being homesick. Its like camping with a Boy Scout troop.

The troops in Iraq were bored out of their skulls...and so was I.

Yes boy scouts are halfway around the world for a year, with the promiss that they are expected to kill or be killed, with nothing to do but sit and wait, and not even being able to just pack up the tent and go home.

I can't believe you just made that analogy.

Great movie. I thought it had a lot of interesting insights into marine life and the nature of war. It reminded me a lot of Full Metal Jacket.

good movie really gets in to the heads of people in war. Really well produced makes you feel like your there with the guys

I would find the situation a little more difficult for people that actually do have to kill or be killed. You know, the ones that actually end up doing something. What do you think would be more taxing on the human mind? Killing people and watching others around you die, or waiting in a base camp for 200 days doing nothing? Give me a break.

This movie was ordinary.

your missing the point, the movies about the other side of war, e.g. theres lots of movies about combat and what it does to you, mostly set in vietnam. but this movie is about the other soldiers, who every day think theyre about to go fight and never get to, and what THAT does to do. i thought it was pretty good, but a downer.
